UK Immigration problem

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

With over 40,00 asylum seekers crossing the channel this year , to seek refuge in the UK ,it  is costing £7 million a day to accommodate them and previous numbers . The new Home Secretary , Suella Braverman , has come under criticism for a recent statement in the House of Commons when she said there was an " invasion " of asylum seekers and many of whom were single men that included criminals .  I am surprised that the oppositions leader has chosen to dwell and nit pick on this . Indeed SB is taking a strong stance on immigration which is applauded by many . New figures show that 1 in 6 of the known UK population were not born in the UK . The country does invite immigrant applications with the onus on professionals ( e.g. doctors & nurses along with skilled workers ) .

I , for one , am backing her . Do you agree ?

No don’t agree.

There has been a near 20 fold increase in cross channel migrants since 2019.

The Government that promised to take back control of Britain’s borders has failed to do so.

The Government has failed, Braverman has failed, Patel before her failed.

It’s idiocy to keep doing something when it has so very clearly failed:

This problem existed long before BREXIT.

If you don't agree, you have them in your country. The EU never did anything to adhere to the terms of the Refugee Convention.

No, they will move from place to place freely in search of food, shelter and a better life for their babies. It's no different from what human migrants are doing now and have done for thousands of years. We are all animals, the only thing that separates us from our insect ancestors is consciousness, a tragic misstep in evolution IMO.

I was thinking , during covid , many cruise ships were sold for scrap. Since the government is throwing money at hotels why not just buy a cruise ship at auction and house the economic migrants on these until their claims for asylum are processed.

Example :  The Carnival Fantasy was sold for scrap in 2020 . Capacity 2675 passengers. Those picked up mid channel could be taken onto the ship which could be moored off shore.

So you do not have a passport or leave your home country then!

You are also implying then that countries do not exist either!

Near 20 fold increase since leaving the Dublin Regulation.

I answered the OPs question with a detailed explanation of why I don’t support the continuation of failure.

The UK us have a huge border issue. Not only withe people but drugs as well.  There really is no way to completely solve it but closing the borders is a good start. Also get rid of soft cover tractor trailers.  Go back to aluminum and make the drivers responsible for the closing and locking.  Give the drivers the keys and then immigration can search at will.

Borders serve the same purpose as doors on houses.

I have a cunning plan. Install hundreds of wind turbines in the channel to blow all the dinghies back to France. This could of course increase the numbers if the wind is blowing the wrong way. So I am working on that problem.

It is easy to criticise and complain but you have not answered questions put to you asking what your proposed  solutions are!

I am not a "fan" of that solution at the moment!

It does however seem to involve less "hot air" than some of the posts  here!

In a rubber dingy?

Have you not noticed that they are crossing the channel by boat not truck I

"I , for one , am backing her . Do you agree ?"

Good God, no!  How anyone could back such a disgustingly bigoted woman is beyond me.  I thought Priti Patel was bad....  The Election cannot come soon enough.

What reason(s) do you have for that bigoted statement?

She is only using language we all understand and many agree with to describe this illegal influx of criminals, draft dodgers etc!

And your solution please apart from just saying "election"!

Two very opposing opinions on this, so lets explore the impact on each side of the discussion..

If there were to be only 1 more illegal immigrant enter the UK in the next 10 years, what impact would that have on the supporters of immigration?.

If there were to be 5 million illegal immigrants enter the UK in the next 10 years what effect would that have on those individuals that wish to limit the influx?

Unless of course all those 5 million suddenly become doctors etc. as the argument is commonly presented. The impact is neglible for the supporters and could actually be catastrophic for those wishing to limit / exclude.

The present situation in terms of the numbers of non UK (and I’m not excluding those born here) individuals living in the UK suggests the balance sides with the supporters.

Now show me the benefits.

My solution would be to rejoin the EU and negotiate an EU-wide quota system for refugees.  Unfortunately, the spineless Labour party don't seem to agree, but I'm hoping that's just for appearances.

I think you're confusing immigrants and refugees.
