Yes, all changed from the early TV days. Much more going on on the internet now, people move on, interesting members banned etc. George used to lay on TV parties back in the day!

There is nothing wrong with the format. Most of the sub forums are to do with local stuff and never had loads of posters on them.

The popular sub forums no longer have as many posting IMO because the popular subjects are apparently no longer allowed. "Where is the best pizza in Pattaya" may be relevant to pizza lovers in Pattaya, but not, IMO, to anyone else.

On one subforum, it's basically a small number of posters attacking anyone that has a different opinion that is IMO driving other posters away. About 6 years ago it had a large number of posters contributing, but no longer.

No one wants to post something only to be vilified or abused for it.

 

If one wants to see why people have left, do an internet search, as they tell it as they experienced it.

 

Like  E-mails and things , technology moves on 

If you mean to those horrid not as smart as they think they are phones, some may like that tiny screen, but I never will. Hate them.

The part about long term expats returning home is good theory but in practice it's very doubtful, even if they went back home they are likely to have remained members and continued to post. Plus, I don't know of many longer term members who left because of covid and didn't return, I think the drop in numbers has more to do with a purging of the old membership to allow the new school to gain a foothold.

 

FWIW, speaking as a long term observer who has noticed the transition over time, one of todays problems is the over posting rate by some posters. It causes reader fatigue because the posters don't say anything useful and there are so many of them, it's a real turnoff. Fine if posters want to engage in focused debate but half a dozen comments each on a dozen or more topics daily is stifling.

In my not-so-humble opinion, there were a lot of heavy handed beach timeouts that soured people on ThaiVisa. They then migrated to the kitty forum until that forum went a similar route. I was a mod on kitty and saw the members transitioning to kitty, then the forum morph into a more heavily censored platform at which time I said, "buh bye."

 

As someone previously posted, the new members on AseanNow make constructive conversation near impossible and it's just not worth the bother any more.

The forum is not your personal space so  you need to  take the rough with the smooth.

The forum provides the tools to ignore posters you feel are annoying to you. 

again its your choice to use or not to use these tools.

 

Try smiling and develop a sense of humor to use on forums.

I am unable to identify with the new name for ThaiVisa. 

 

You can call this great forum what you will, but I will always call it TV. 

 

TV, to me, means like watching the boob tube. 

 

Nobody admits they love to spend time watching the boob tube, and yet, they do. 

 

One thing I have learned is that TV is not a forum, exclusively, for boobs. 

 

Here on TV, you will find posters of every ilk. 

 

Personally, I do not mind, too much, that the name has changed. 

 

It's like calling a kettle black, rather than referencing the tea kettle. 

 

I would not mind if we reverted to the former name for this forum. 

 

But, I don't think changing the name, again, would amount to a hill of beans.
