Warning to all dog owners in Thailand after a recent pit bull attack and other serious incidents

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ying Naphawan Panya, Deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police issued a warning to animal owners but particularly to the owners of dogs of the pitbull breed.

Thai law imposes duties on the owners of dogs to keep them under restraint at all times. There is growing concern about the spike in incidents linked to pit bull dogs in Thailand with a long list of deaths and horrific injuries linked to the breed or crossbreeds of this type of dog.

The Royal Thai police, on Saturday, issued a warning to all dog owners in Thailand especially those who own pit bull breeds to meet their legal responsibility to treat the dogs properly while making sure to exercise control and restraint over them after a dangerous incident at the end of October and several deaths and horrific attacks in recent times.

 

Thai police have issued a warning to dog owners in the kingdom that they may face stiff civil and criminal penalties for failing to properly care for animals and ensure that they are not a danger to others.

Obviously they need to be banned. When they become soi dogs better people don't go out

End of October? That's a new one then. I thought they would be referring to that one in Pattaya in which the Pitbull chewed on a little toddler for 5 minutes on a public road. Nothing happened to the dog of course.

Something that is so rare in Thailand that possession of a PB should be taken as an intent to cause harm and result in immediate prosecution.

Obviously we can't take this message seriously in a country with more soi dogs than people. You'd think they'd take all those dogs off the streets but no.. Too much work for these lazy tarts. Tough language without tough actions in this country, as always.

Guns are safe if owners are properly trained and they're kept in a safe. So everyone should have a gun.

In several countries these killer dogs are forbidden.. For me easy.. just shoot them just as 75% of the stray dogs

Why 75%? Where I come from there are no strays. All dogs must be microchipped.

Thailand needs to put it's act together regarding dogs. Strays to be collected and destroyed, owners punished for dumping puppies. Around our village people dumping puppies on a monthly basis. Government doesn't do anything when those dogs grow up and starting to attack livestock, people. I lost dozens of ducks due to strays and officials refuse to do anything citing animal protection laws. What a joke.

When I lived in Dawson, YT a small child was bitten by a dog wandering loose.

City issued a warning - control your dogs or else.

Hired a local who was given a Gov't pickup, ski mask, and a 12 gauge.

After a dozen dogs were 'fixed' the problem went away.

None of this bull manure about 'Oh the dogs are so kind when given a good home' If they had a good home they would not be running loose.

This is human problem not a dog one. There are no regulations on breeders. People but these dogs are find they can't handle them and they become street dogs. Then with government will (which there isn't any) a national spay and neuter program.

What an idiotic statement! We live in a country where they often show scant care of their pets, dumping them when they become too problematic. If these genes become more prominent in the soi dog population we are in for dangerous times.

Since when have any Thais taken notice of any by-laws. Indiscriminate fly tipping, even next to signs saying 2000 baht fine. village dogs, (and children), running riot all day and night.

Half the population will not even hear this announcement, and the other half will ignore it anyway. Too much hot air, and not enough positive action.

This topic is about pit bull terriers, that have been banned completely by some civilised countries such as France, Holland, Singapore because they are dangerous. They are known  for many years to be dangerous and unpredictable and they should be banned here in Thailand as the incidence of irresponsible dog owners (of all kinds) is far greater than in those countries aforementioned.

Yes thats correct. Their are as many feral Thais as their are dogs The law is for someone else and not them.

This story is about PB dogs in Thailand...not globally.. ? A few irresponsible (idiots as you call them) owners, like millions of dog owners in Thailand...allow their dogs to wander anywhere....then breed with soi dogs.

Pit-Bulls are not the only breed. Rottweilers have the same reputation in Thailand for attacks.

Where's TAT? These dog mauling's have got to be detrimental to tourism.  That DNA is gonna spread among the soi dogs. Just wait till the recession is over and the tourist start returning to the streets of Thailand.

I agree but it’s not through laziness. For misguided Buddhist reasons the new ‘government’ enacted protections for soi dogs, such that the taking-of-them-out would lead to hefty prosecution. Although they got people in line fairly quickly, they seemed to go the other way regards stray dogs. After having spent time out of the country, I was surprised at the exponential growth in the general soi dog populace on returning. Really speaks third world, when of course it’s not. Hoping the next real government pulls their finger out and does the right thing.

So nothing to say pit bulls should be muzzled. Many tourists here are scared to walk the streets, because of the Soi dogs. 'Charites' going around all day feeding Soi dogs is one of my pet hates. pun nearly intended.

He's probably on a volunteer visa. There are 3 in my area at least, living on charity, the dogs hang out on the side of the road all day waiting for their 'meals on wheels'.

Yes we got a Thai lady goes round the village doing the same.... rumour has it she had a run of bad luck, consulted with a monk at the Wat, and this was suggested to her as a good luck merit thing.

No, many want to ban the breed, because the known intensions when the breeding started. This breed is created for the purpose of aggressive fighting. Something that was never intended when they made the expression that the dog is your best friend.

The American Staffordshire terrier (Pitbull) is an outstanding dog,  but,   they have been bred for generations to highlight their aggressive attributes to the point that they are a real liability to have around.    It was my understanding that they were not allowed into the Kingdom.

 

They are great dogs that have been ruined by people training them for their negative attributes.
