Bang Saphan police attended the scene after twelve tons of rolled steel fell off the back of a lorry.

It happened on the Phatchkasem to Chai Thalay Road in Bang Saphan, Prachuap Khiri Khan near the Bang Saphan Withaya school.

Police found some of the rolled steel still attached but about twelve tons was all over the road.

Driver Suwat, 41, said he was taking the metal from the area to Rayong and was doing about 30-40 kmph along windy roads when it came loose.

An initial investigation discovered that the scrap metal was not properly attached to the truck.

The factory where it came from has been contacted and better procedures are being put in place to avoid a repeat.

Luckily no motorists or motorcyclists were coming up behind when the load spilled onto the road so there were no injuries, reported Siam Rath yesterday.

Thais are great believes of gravity and things stay put... So why secure on a  truck .....

More good luck than anything else that no-one was injured or killed, both the driver & company should be prosecuted for allowing an insecure load to be on the highway.

'Better procedures' ! What I take from that is that the company had sent out numerous loads incorrectly secured in the past. I've had employment in the steel industry, construction and shipping and it scare me to death when I'm behind people on the road transporting anything heavier than a few bags of leaves.

12 tons of metal travelling  at 30-40 km/hour no longer weighs 12 tons.

Now attaching amulets to all loads

Leave the steel on the road. It might actually make the road safer.

So it was a factory responsibility to secure the load and the driver was not required to check......????
