So what were you hoping for in Pattaya which isn't in Bkk? Don't they have fireworks there? Or maybe a change in r-p participant eh! There was a confusing message about Chonburi in a thread yesterday but also 100% confirmed for Pattaya: https://thepattayanews.com/2022/12/22/new-year-countdown-fireworks-canceled-in-pattaya/ And even a reason stated now telling half of the story.

It is just a couple of mask obsessed dullards with nothing constructive to say... I have not yet seen a topic saying NYE Fireworks in Pattaya were cancelled.... I did read one saying Chonburi had cancelled them, could be the City, could be the Province,, but Pattaya is a separate administration. This thread suggests Bangkok has cancelled them.... is that true or not? Ah.. just seen the topic about Pattaya cancellation. https://thepattayanews.com/2022/12/22/new-year-countdown-fireworks-canceled-in-pattaya/ Edited December 23, 2022 by jacko45k

kingstonkid
For those that do not know this is because the princess had a heart attack. They only say she is stable so I think Matthew may be right
Popular Post Doctor Tom
New Year is a meaningless, history generated nonsense, that sees half the World celebrating yet another 12 O'clock while the rest wait to do the same when their clock hits 12 midnight. If it had any sense to it at all, it would be at 12 midnight UTC on 31st December, regardless of where you are in the World, but of course, that makes too much sense. To answer the OP, its a normal day, no different to any other, so do what you normally do. 1 1
jcmj
All my Thai friends know this is due to the seriousness of the illness of the princess. Nothing to do with Covid. I know it’s a common excuse for everything, but not this time. The Thais love their princess and feel there should be no celebration during this time. I have a feeling that Mathew unfortunately may be correct.

Having gone into central Pattaya on NYE many times in the past, I would not recommend it. Putting up with the crowds and traffic is not a great way to start the year. I didn't know they had cancelled the fire works on the hill, but either way, it's a lousy night to go there.
