Just go (or stay) where it is best for you.  ("Going home" could be much worse for those who've little money.)

But do remember to reassess regularly.

I do think Thailand is not a place for anyone under 40 for more than a few months, unless you are from the Ukraine or some place dealing with big problems.   I've worked enough, no money issues now, it's been 8 years.....

there is no reality.

I'm sure there are tons of other countries I would really, really enjoy.... way too lazy to pack up and go try them all out.

That video:  5 signs to leave Pattaya.

NO...   1 sign.   Are you in Pattaya?  Yes?  Leave.

Really nothing new in the video:

If you want to live in Thailand including Pattaya a person should have two essentials namely i) reasonable  good health and ii) enought money to live comfortably.

Going back UK now ???????? all that would achieve would be my death.

Another draft plonker with his own opinion making a video back then and now.

Everyone different so obvous.

My first time to Thailand was Pattaya 2 nights was enough and went to Phuket for the remainder of holiday apart from 2 nights in Bkk that was enough.

Following years just toured from central Thailand which was a good starting point to everywhere and ended in the end for me to settle here.

All surrounding counties i didn't find rocked my boat.

Next.

I just watched the video and that is what I thought. If someone can't afford a nice place in Pattaya will he be able to afford one back home?

And back home he certainly won't sit in front of the convenient store and drink beer. It's just way too cold in most of those home countries.

Luckily, I can still afford a nice living standard. But if I wouldn't be able to afford it, then I don't think I would go "home". To do what? Dream about Thailand?

It would cost me at least 3 times as much in rent to stay anywhere in Australia in simple accommodation and much more in food and transport. The visa and flight costs are the only impediment to staying in Thailand. If I needed frequent health care that might tip the scales but so far not. I have some health conditions, HBP and cholesterol which essentially preclude health insurance.

I live in Pattaya because it's cheap and varied with much to do and see. Everything is walking distance so I don't bother to rent a bike. Jomtien would be cheaper to rent but the transport costs would make up the difference as well as I just don't like the place. Currently I pay 15K rent and if I was on a pension or much older I'd probably pick somewhere else. No idea where. I'm single and so Pattaya suits me but I don't often go to bars and rarely drink.

I have lived in the Philippines for over 20 years and over it big time. I didn't like Cambodia. I have been to Vietnam once and quite liked it but was only there a couple of weeks. Too hard to live there for an Aussie (visas). Speaking Thai helps.

I think the time will come when I need to move out of Pattaya to save some rent. Staying in Nirun or Arcadia doesn't appeal.

going home? This is my home -

If they cannot afford to live here, isn't it going to be more expensive back home?

With respect go and do some touring all over Thailand if you have not already done so.

Not in my list of things to do is to leave Thailand. For those who are contemplating it then why not as the country obviously does not really suit you and that is fine. There is no place on earth that suits everyone.

Right now I'm a digital nomad working 5 nights a week so travel is difficult. I have been to CM 40 years ago and a couple of years ago. Not been to Phuket since about 1983 and not to Samui since 1979. Went to Udon a couple of years ago. I went to Kanchanburi as well i the 80's. That was nice. If I had real money I'd stay in BKK but that's out of my price range.

Suggestions as to where a single man in late 60's would enjoy? I'm not fixated on girls and don't want to have a girlfriend but complete celibacy would be a problem. I'm very much a homebody and not much of a drinker. I'd like to rent a car for a month and travel all over.

You can find prostitution in most Countries and having sex isn't  problem in most Countries

I'm not driven by prostitution. Other factors take a much higher precedence. I was referring more to social interaction. No woman is free. I like Thai culture as you've probably noticed how I push back against Thai bashers.

Again you are showing a predilection for telling everybody what I think.

Thing is Thailand is in general a great place in your 40's and 50's.

However as you enter your 60's and later it dives.

Funds are running out, and as immortal as we once were stuff breaks and that health insurance we once laughed about is now unaffordable or just not available.

Now given the choice of some hovel in a Thai village or moving home to at least be with family and some healthcare, I think I know the answer

I've modified my diet a lot in recent years and recently joined a gym and shelling out a king's ransom for a personal trainer to try to prevent health issues becoming the driving factor. I walk a lot and won't buy a bike so as not to get lazy.

One of my mates is married to an Indonesian girl and has a home in Lombok but it's not for me. Food's good, that's about it.

Didnt you previously state you have had sex with over 5000 different woman, that's about 2 per week ?

  • Popular Post

I haven't been to Pattaya since 2010 and have no desire to go again.

I live with my wife and my Thai son in a comfortable 4 bed house in rural Kamphaeng Phet and I don't drink any more.

Which is not exactly 100% correct, as I have one Stroh rum and coke every New Nears eve. I figure that I have another 10 years to finish that bottle nd by then I will be 88

I would like to say that I would go back to the UK but Thailand IS my home and has been since 2001.

I was younger then and had a yen for women. I was pretty green and she was brown.

It was more than that but now I'm older and don't care anymore.

What most lacking, is dicipline and a brain to help them to make good and healthy choices for themselves. ✔️

I agree with the drinking (or lack of it). I no longer enjoy alcohol myself and would rather have a cup of tea. House is not really as comfortable as UK because I often get too hot then there's the ants, mosquitos, jing jok's and tokays doing their business in the drawers on crockery and cutlery. Never had rats chew through cables in my house in UK. Find dead cats everywhere that neighbours have poisoned. I find the soi dogs intimidating and my soi could be described as 'dog <deleted> alley'. Free bus every 20 minutes in UK with my 'codger pass'. Prefer English food. I suppose it comes down to if you can tolerate the cold and rain, ice and snow, everything's expensive and everyone's on strike. Perhaps not!

A little confused, how is travel difficult if you are a digital nomad, can't you work almost anywhere?
