That's a strong attraction of Pattaya. One can choose one's own preferred lifestyle and cross the rubicon and return at will for a break.

Plenty of places just outside the central entertainment locations that are peaceful and quiet.....

I "came here off and on" for some 6 years.

Naturally stayed central Pattaya.

Been living Darkside last 10 years & go into central Pattaya maybe once every 2 months+ on business etc.

These days for me....central Pattaya - nope.

Darkside.......couldn't be happier.????????

I quite like Pattaya, everything a BritMan could want, and mostly at a bargain price.

Is there a bar inside where you can order beer @ 11am?

You may divide Pattaya into 3 different virtual surroundings (may be equal to its geographical location but must not be):

1. The Bar Section (that is what most people seem to know well and talk about here). Found in Soi Buakaw and similar. No need to explain here on AN.

2. The Family Section (found scattered around but mostly found where high rise buildings offer higher quality living with people who can afford that)

3. The "real Thai Life Section". (mostly found on the Darkside).

All three are distinctively different. Do not confuse Pattaya with only Surrounding No.  1. nor with its geograpy locations. There are enough higher standard houses on the Darkside although it is in the virtual "real Thai Life" Section.

The only place I found with a 24hr bar was Garden Village Guest House in Siem Reap.

Mostly backpackers in their early 20s, quite nice to have a 50c beer served by the pool for my 6am swim.

I love this place, sun/sea/good prices/women. I like the Thai people but so many of the women are messed up.

Examples being drinking and addictions to cosmetic procedures. I recently dated a woman who could not afford food due to the cost of botox etc. Phew.

An exchange more than a decade ago, probably in a yearly Doom thread:

@Addicted2Pattaya, on 2008-10-13 00:39:08:

If pattaya did die. where would be the next best place ?

@Sommaz, on 2008-10-13 10:47:57

Heaven of course.

Where have all the flat noses gone in Pattaya?  Difficult to find a bargirl who hasn't had a nose job these days.   Some of the work turned out ok, but some looks terrible.

Thailand doesn't attract any winners IMHO.

One does wonder why (OK, not really), some prefer to live in the tourist ghettos.

It would be quite depressing for me.
