Public seems to be searching for a reason to acknowledge that cry....

Yet just now they came out and said they did extort her....so I will not be listening to the RTP continue to try and sweep there misdeeds under the carpet.

My 33 years of experience here suggests otherwise.

  • Nobody trusts them for two reasons, many of them are liars and crooks.

  • So, what were the charges against he "Actress"?   Appearing to be drunk? Having Vaping equipment in her hand-bag? I do not see that she has been charged with any offence, so what excuse

Chief of Huai Kwang police station has been transferred to an inactive post pending an investigation into alleged extortion of a Taiwanese actress.

The misdeeds of his men and the shame he and his men have caused to further soil, or besmurch the RTP's stellar reputation has left its mark on his career.  Yeah who am I kidding, as I sit here in my inactive retired post.

Hmmm….. just like we should all believe in the tooth fairy ?

Be careful what you ask for.

What should happen if you are caught with a Vape or no ID?

Fairly sure there were other cases that went to court for the vape in public offense.

This seems reasonable. Held overnight or until bail posted, court case, fine (small and a warning), legal fees, missed flight, Visa runs out as you wait for court case so deported at your own cost.

20k sounds very cheap in comparison.

Even though the fine might be very low the threat of the above hassle is what creates the hustle opportunity, hey here's an easy, costly but less costly way out for you.

Small fixed very publicized fines with receipts would help.

So Chuwit says there is video proof, then suddenly the police admit to extortion, after denying it and slandering Charlene An. Chuwit is a one man wrecking ball. Wish he were PM.

All of the folks here carrying the RTP's water on this incident must feel a bit ashamed.

IMO, TAT and the RTP need to issue guidelines for tourists re: stop & search procedures. Why are they stopping and searching vehicles? What should tourists do when stopped? What legal rights do yourists have? How much should tourists pay for bribes? And the police need to get out to Thai clubs and clamp down on this illegal eCig use.

And maybe issue an apology to Ms. An for defaming her in public.

I still believe in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and elves.....I mean how else did I get the money under my pillow, my super duper Red Ryder BB gun, and my Easter basket which was placed on the roof....

You are absolutely correct, but if they did that, an apology, they would be admitting they were in the wrong?

I think at least a couple of them are looking for rocks to hide under.

More:

The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) said in a statement issued today (Monday) that they are investigating an allegation that a group of Huai Khwang police extorted 27,000 baht from a Taiwanese actress, found in possession of an electronic cigarette, during a stop at a road checkpoint.

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/bangkok-police-offer-public-apology-but-do-not-admit-to-extortion-of-taiwanese-actress/

But can you trust a cctv movie of an actress? Maybe she was acting.

The police men are probably thinking, hey the cctv was off, we could have put a few plastic bags over her head.

Deport her and black list.

555... they can't deport someone who isn't in Thailand.

So your going to claim now, that the real story is out, and the RTP did extort her, that your post was truly just sarcasm, right?

Pol Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek said that the Thai public should get their information from the Thai police not social media, reported Thai Rath.

Then it would be reliable.

Of course we should

It was their reliable source of information that bought to the Publics attention, the horrific Torture and Killing at their Hands by one of their Officers of a suspected Drug courier

NOT !

^This, yes.  I'm guessing she will drop it but would love to see her sue.

The case has caused a firestorm of controversy in both Thailand and Taiwan. It has been reported as damaging to the RTP as well as Thai tourism, something admitted by the RTP themselves.

Gotta love the way they frame the whole scandal here, i.e., it’s the story - not the actions of cops who were involved in the shakedown - which is damaging to the RTP’s image.

If they were squeaky clean, why did they insist she delete the phone video of the incident at the station.????

Thong Lor PS did exactly that a decade back. Made a big difference of course ????

ROFL! ????

If the Major General were a defense attorney:

“Your honor, I move that only the defendant’s testimony be admitted and that all eyewitness accounts and all accounts by interested parties be stricken from the record.”

The fact that the RTP will travel to Taiwan is indicative of the cops are not lying. Otherwise they would let a sleeping dog lie

Really, that is your take on it? I would suggest that more threats, intimidation or even brown envelopes will be tried. However, due to their "We are the greatest in the universe" attitude they are about to be re-educated. I hope that she is already setting up the hidden cameras in preparation....

Dear RTP, Trust is something that is earned, not demanded.

"............the Thai public should get their information from the Thai police not social media, reported Thai Rath. Then it would be reliable."

Yes, of  course it will!:-

"Regarding the CCTV he said it was all from afar and the people and what they were doing at the checkpoint cannot be identified clearly." ......."One interesting area that the Thai media has not spoken about was previous RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk who introduced CCTV at roadside checkpoints. The fact that on this occasion the RTP are saying that such evidence is unclear shows the ineffectiveness of this initiative."

Sorry, I missed that possibility yesterday!

"....the Grab car dash cam video from the night in question had already been deleted as it was more than 20 days old."

Pretty close on that one, though!

A friend of mine was asked to pay 100,000 so they would investigate his house being broken into and his SUV stolen (they found the key in the house). The 'security guard' of the estate vanished the same day, which kind of pointed to who might be involved. He was so 'disappointed' at their service that he decided to leave this ****hole and move back to Australia - and his Thai wife was only too happy to go with him.

I've always said Thailand is paradise until something goes wrong, then it becomes hell.

Never figure on relying on the Police, that is one thing the locals will all tell you and one of the first things you need to learn then visiting or staying here.

They introduced a diversionary tactic by suggesting that there was some kind of electronic cigarette present. As far as I'm concerned they were digging their own grave at that point.

Two wrongs don't make a right, if she had an e-cig then so what - nobody in nearly all the world cares about this.

Why even mention it?

If the Thai police find an e-cig they demand money, everyone knows that - and that's extortion unless it's an official fine - which I'm going to take a guess that it wasn't.

and the more they (RTP) keep talking about it and post about it the deeper the grave gets until total collapse

I just read in the media that the National Police Chief had ordered the Bangkok Chief to transfer the responsible police station chief to an 'inactive post', and that the police are now saying the allegations made by the Taiwanese tourist may have truth.
