The northern city of Chiang Mai has been named the safest in Southeast Asia, beating Davao in the Philippines into second place and Singapore in third. Singapore has maintained a general reputation for being very “safe” in the past.

Chiang Mai has also been named the 32nd safest city in the world, out of a list of 416 cities, according to a Nation Thailand report.

The list has been compiled by Numbeo, a website described as the world’s largest cost-of-living database.

Chiang Mai was awarded 75.5 points for safety in Southeast Asia, with Davao in the Philippines winning 72.4 points and Singapore awarded 70.8.

The safest city in the world is listed as Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, with 88.8 points, with Doha, capital of Qatar, coming in second with 85.5 points, and the Taiwanese capital Taipei in third place, with 84.9 points. Bangkok has been listed as 170th globally and number 7 in Southeast Asia, with 59.5 points.

According to government spokesman, Anucha Burapachaisri, the Thai PM has welcomed the news that Chiang Mai has taken the top spot in Southeast Asia.

“Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has thanked all related agencies for ensuring safety among people.”

Anucha says Chiang Mai’s success is a reflection of the government’s efforts to tackle crime, improve people’s lives, and boost confidence among foreign visitors.

I think the results are somewhat off. As for Chiang Mai.  I spent three days there.  I did like it better than Bangkok

"Nice One Cyril" (UK)

The song title is a reference to Cyril Knowles, a left back who played for Tottenham Hotspur. It was released before the 1973 Football League Cup Final where Tottenham played Norwich City. (Wikipedia)

What does that have to do with anything? You can't list the hottest of the hot? Or the ugliest of the ugly?
