I know you don't, that's because it doesn't exist.

Could you take the issue up with the Moderator who stated it ?

One of the Mods did post it on the forums , that laughing at serious posts is considered to be trolling

How could that be when (a) the forum provides the laughing emoji with no qualification on it's use and (b) one of the Mods has given permission to use the alternative laughing emoji provided on the reply form?!

And what's wrong with ridiculing a ridiculous opinion?

it's un-sportsman-like. it's better to debate.

people here are expressing that they're offended by it.

so now to counter-act "woke culture", we should go out of our way to offend people?

Emojis in the post body don't contribute to popular posts. They also do require the author to spend a little time creating the post so it deters some of the hard core a bit. I can imagine that posting only emoticons might eventually draw some unwanted attention to the author as well.

That is when I gave up and I just blocked him. Sometimes it doesn't make any sense to try to explain things to other people if they don't want to listen at all. And when I see outrageous comments then I laugh at them. I don't waste my time explaining to people that the earth is not flat.

When I was younger, I would often push my ideas on people.

Now, I have learned not to do that, or try not to.

For one thing, I've been wrong about a lot of things and I've changed my views on a lot of things.

You're convinced that you're right, but maybe you're not. How do you know for sure? The world is a complex place.

Just using a laughing emoji is childish. Just stop talking to the person if you don't see eye to eye.

Or take the time to express why you disagree.

Sorry but I find it a little amusing that some of the more senior members on here, who are very keen to hand out life advice at every opportunity, are getting unsettled by a little laughing emoji.

Forget kids not being able to deal with social media culture, it's the old fellas who seem to be crumbling the quickest

Well the old fellas warned the young fellas to grow up. They didn't. The old fellas have won. Deal with it. LOL.

Interesting.... so what actually happened?

A group of insecure old fellas petitioned the powers that be to remove the laughing emoji?

High drama if you ask me

I don't think that any or many people complained about them , Mods got fed up with a few idiots  just laughing at posts and so removed that option .

The only complaints seem to be coming from the serial laughers who cant "have a larf" anymore because their toys have been taken away from them

No, after repeated warnings about trolling people with emoji and pointing out that there was a rule against it, the moddies apparently gave up and decided to remove it. Heads exploded among those who sincerely missed being able to laugh at people instead of responding with a cogent argument, preferably supported by credible evidence. There is a related rule that says claims to fact need to be supported. Since many of the recalcitrants were unable to abide by that rule, they found it convenient to merely annoy the poster with a laughing emoji on a serious post that he had just spent time and effort writing.

What number rule is it?

10. You will not post troll messages. Trolling is the act of purposefully antagonizing forum members by posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other members into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

11. You will not stalk other members by using forum posts, private messages, the use of emojis or any other means.

You could try explaining why you think its a ridiculous opinion, rather than just laughing ?

But you don't like people quoting you, remember you started pm-ing me about it. Maybe you're too sensitive for a forum

Now that I've thought more about this I'm convinced it's not a good idea. The problem is that it treats all posters as children, which is exactly the sentiment that was expressed earlier when somebody wrote that the toys had been taken away! The concept is on par with use of the word bickering which has been over abused to death. Yes some posters do bicker, yes some posters are childish, but I don't believe the vast majority are. When a serious subject is disrupted by childlike behaviour and the serious poster tries to justify or defend the post in the face of trollism, it's unhelpful when mods intervene and say the post was removed for bickering. There is a bickerer and bickeree in these things and I think mods need to be clear which was which. Similarly, a post is either humorous or its not, it's not rocket science to understand whether it is or isn't and to spot what the intent was. A blanket ban on smileys is a hammer to crack a nut, definitely overkill.

I think the answer is multi-faceted. Some posters need to be a little thicker skinned, other posters need to grow up and mods need to be alert to abuse and over use. Reinstate the smiley, I say.  ????

No that isnt true , I sent you a PM which said :

"Keep your abuse here (in PM's) and keep it off the forums .

Reply here of you have anything to say"

And you replied stating you were blocking me .

I didn't say anything about you quoting me or anyone else quoting me  , I just asked you to stop the abuse

There was no abuse, you are just overly sensitive, i tend to block stalkers

Sending  one PM isn't regarded as stalking and I wouldnt have sent you a PM asking you to stop the abuse, for no reason at all.

"Overly Sensitive " ?  I am not the one who is upset about having his toys taken away from him .

I don't mind the laugh reaction either way, doesn't bother me. Quote an example of the "abuse"? I'm guessing it was just a post when i disagreed with you

As far as I know, this rule applies only to the world forum. Members are free to bloviiate to their hearts' content in any other forum.

I don't think you can show any of the abuses any more as AFAIK all those Laugh Reactions have been removed. But an example (I think) of "abuse" was members reacting with those smileys to News Reports.

Well, I've only seen that rule explicitly written for the world forum.

You are guessing wrong  , I wouldn't have sent you a PM just because you disagreed with me .

You called one of my female friends a prostitute and even when I stated that she wasn't a prostitute , you kept inferring that she was and you also claimed that I was "Leaver" and you asked whether my friend was homeless .

I then sked you to stop the abuse on line and take it to PM's

It would be quoted like any rule where applicable.

it should all be brought back everyone should be able to express their opinions. Seems pretty weak of so many to take it personally.

An emoji is an opinion? That's a pretty low standard to set for what qualifies as an opinion.
