The authorities in the US are calling on a Thai woman who fled to Bangkok after she struck and killed a student with her car to turn herself in. Tubtim “Sue” Howson, a US citizen, fled the scene after the incident in Michigan, in which 22 year old Benjamin Kable died.

According to a Coconuts report, at around 6am on New Year’s Day, Howson struck the Michigan State University student with her BMW, before fleeing the scene. Mr Kable subsequently died and on January 3, Howson fled the US on a flight to Bangkok.

Michigan state sheriff Michael Bouchard has begun the extradition process and is urging Howson to turn herself in at the US Embassy in Bangkok.

“Come back, go to the American Embassy in Thailand, do the right thing. You know things got worse because you left the country. You know extra charges were applied because you didn’t stop at the scene.”

The victim’s father, Mike Kable, has expressed disbelief at Howson’s actions following the death of his son, who was studying electrical engineering.

“Just the lack of empathy and humanity it would take and then to just plot your getaway. All we can do is cross our fingers that we get some justice.”

Meanwhile, Thai police say they have not taken any action as they have yet to receive an extradition request. In the US, a felony arrest warrant has been issued for Howson, for failing to stop at the scene of a fatal crime. Authorities say she could face additional charges as a result of fleeing prosecution.

She was apprehended in Ratchburi today. Big Joke held a press conference with her as well. Can't post a link to the Post so this will do for now.

Can't find that story anywhere, including the Bangkok Post.

A THAI woman who is now an American citizen and is wanted in Michigan for a hit-and-run that killed a Michigan State University student on Jan. 1, 2023 said after being apprehended that she is ready to return to US to face legal consequences, Matichon newspaper said.

Mrs. Tubtim “Sue” Howson was driving a 2016 BMW 320i to go to work at a grocery store when she fatally struck the student, Ben Kable, at around 5.49 a.m.

Deputies say Kable was “in the roadway” when he was hit by the BMW, but it’s not clear if he was “standing or walking in the roadway when he was hit.” Kable was home for holiday break when he was killed, according to court documents.

She probably thought she would get away with it or it was ok to do it because so many do the same in Thailand and are never caught and/or punished.

Yes it's ingrained in the Thais to some extent as in the old days you might get beat to death by the locals especially if you were at fault. In the US you are looking at serious prison time even if it wasn't your fault which would seem to be the case here.

Fleeing the scene and now the country...  such a noble act.

Why is everything left up to big joke to do?  With the amount of press conferences he does each day to wallow in his admiration where does he actually find the time to chase down an arrest all these offenders.  Somehow I get the feeling he steals or the credit of other people's work and says look at me, worship me I am truly magnificent

You don't need to do the actual work to get the recognition, you just have to be the boss.

The underlings that do that actual work get no recognition, it all passes up to the boss who ordered the work to be done and approved the results.

This poor young man's life cut short. Dying at 22 is just incredibly tragic. Just 1 more year and he would have graduated with an engineering degree.

She should do the right thing. Return immediately, make reparations to his loved ones and do the time.

Dual citizenship is not allowed under Thai law I believe.

Years ago the Thais were told if you become a citizen elsewhere you need to hand in your Thai citizenship. Many did but was not law. If you dont hand it in (like many I've met), it will not be taken, then you become a dual citizen.
