2-5TB external storage devices

Featured Replies

I have 4 HDDs which are currently housed in an external drive cradle. From what I can see, they are still functioning well. No read write errors, no bad sectors. But I would like to back them up to a single, possibly 2, new drives for safety's sake. They contain my entire collection of movies, music and graphics (no, not porn).

How reliable is the hardware on Lazada? In the supposed WD store they have a 5TB Passport for 3590 THB. That's less than £100. But some reviews (a very small percentage admittedly) say it's rubbish. Anyone have any experience of this? Where do people source there "mission critical" gear from? There's a mountain of junk on Lazada, for sure.

I think with the hard drives you're ok, where it gets sketchy is with sd cards and thumb drives.

Have ordered tech stuff from Lazada here and in the Phils and have never had an issue.

You can't do much wrong with the WD disks.

In professional statistics they come with very good reliability stats.

Compare prices in major IT chain shops and consider to buy there.

For comparison.

In Germany the WD passport 5 TB is on sale for 110/115 Euro (~4200 Baht). So the price of 3590 Baht is not that suspiciously low.

Mostly I buy harddrives at JIB. And mostly you can pick the online offers up in the store to avoid transport damage. Is it this here?

Hope you have a new UEFI BIOS. With the old BIOS you have a 2 TB limit.

Yes, same one, same price. I've taken a punt on Lazada as I know my way round the returns system if it proves a dud. I might chase up some HDD testing software.

JIB has a very good reputation. I bought many hard drives there already. Look that you have warranty and by whom. WD or SYNNEX is ????. Check the S. M. A. R. T. data. Here you also can see the run time. But I guess you know this anyway.

I've had 4 from the WD store on Lazada.

Around 8 years, 7 years, 5 years and 2 years.

All 4 have been problem free and are plugged in and working every day.

I've bought most of my drives from JIB as well. Good service and local.

Couple of weeks ago I decided to move one of my old HDs in my main machine to my spare to replace an ancient failed HD there.

I looked around for a 6 TB. Lazada vendor, seemed reputable, in Chachoengsao had one B200 cheaper than JIB. Not "too good to be true," surely genuine, but still not cheap enough to tempt me away from just picking up one at JIB when I'm at the mall. So I did. Checked out fine, now in use. ????

If you want to buy online , Thomas usually has some good gear at Invadeit.

Used him often .

Cool. Had a look at his stuff. I'd be interested in non Chinese PoE CCTV cameras. I've been with Hikvision for years, as the only fairly decent ones on Lazada, but .... Well, you know the story!

Just bought a 5TB WD drive from Lazada, only 3,100 baht plus 600 baht cash back. Never had a problem with WD drives, but buy from WD not a secondary sellor. Amazing for the price and so small now.
