ICE vs EV, the debate thread
Without the govt incentives they would not have chosen ev's to this degree, if you have a small population in such a large land area its easier to produce the amount of electricity to supply them especially when you have tons of hydro (which I mentioned due to its location re read it) therefore its not a level playing field in any shape or form its been massively subsidised all of these subisidies will evaporate . Just as UK ev's buyers are now finding out with car tax being introduced for ev's. Norway is the exception to the rule for those reasons and not typical of the ev market worldwide. No purchase/import tax on EVs (1990-2022). From 2023 some purchase tax based on the cars’ weight on all new EVs. Exemption from 25% VAT on purchase (2001-2022). From 2023, Norway will implement a 25% VAT on the purchase price from 500 000 Norwegian Kroner and over No annual road tax (1996-2021). Reduced tax from 2021. Full tax from 2022. No charges on toll roads (1997- 2017). No charges on ferries (2009- 2017). Maximum 50% of the total amount on ferry fares for electric vehicles (2018) Maximum 50% of the total amount on toll roads (2018-2022). From 2023 70% Free municipal parking (1999- 2017) Access to bus lanes (2005-). New rules allow local authorities to limit the access to only include EVs that carry one or more passengers (2016-) 25% reduced company car tax (2000-2008). 50% reduced company car tax (2009-2017). Company car tax reduction reduced to 40% (2018-2021) and 20 percent from 2022. Exemption from 25% VAT on leasing (2015-) The Norwegian Parliament decided on a national goal that all new cars sold by 2025 should be zero-emission (electric or hydrogen) (2017). «Charging right» for people living in apartment buildings was established (2017-) Public procurement: From 2022 cars needs to be ZEV. From 2025 the same applies to city buses -

Smart Home automations - anybody using?
I have various wifi smart plugs that give me energy usage data in the Tuya App, but as I am transitioning to Home Assistant I am moving from WiFi to Zigbee, so I needed a Zigbee Hub. A couple videos I have just uploaded: -

The Covers (musical, you idiot) Thread - Great. Good. Indifferent. So bad they're good!!
Sorry folks, forgot I posted most of these a few months ago> the dementia must be kickin in. A band from UK did a good version of this song arranged by Leadbelly ( his singing begins at 1.30) -

Ok then, we will ignore what the report actually said and the photographic evidence because you want to argue as usual. -

Chatgpt generated Thai stories
What I resent in ChatGPT is that if you ask ChatGPT to read the Thai, what you get is Thai read with a noticeable US accent. At present I wouldn't recommend using ChatGPT to practise listening and speaking Thai. -

Huge markup on imported foods. Why?
That's not a fact, it's just something that you just made up and hope people are too stupid or simply don't care enough to correct your fallacies. I'm glad that you asked me about COLES, as I posted it to try to stop you making a fool of yourself. There was good reason why I posted that. It not only states that it is Australian butter, but it has an extra badge stating Product of Australia. Ingredients are Australian cream, water and salt. Now look at the picture that you posted. Nowhere does it state that it is Australian. I mean nowhere. The ONLY connection to Australia is that historical brand name. Is it beginning to sink in as of yet? There is likely no Australian connection, ingredients nor influence to that product al all, other than KCG having acquired the right to use the brand name. -

Suvarnabhumi Visa Exempt - Change of Tactic Applied
I have been in Thailand for 15 out of the last 18 months on Visa Exempt plus Extensions ( including Family - Thai Wife ) plus Border bounces. I started to get questioned entering via BKK from immigration officers about "Do I have a Visa" etc.... Now when I hand over my passport ( last two Visa Exempt entries ) I also pass over the Pink Thai ID Card... That appears to have placated any further lines about Visas questions. That has now past smoothly for my last 2 x Visa Exempt entries since June 2024. I'm rather thinking that it is because of having a permanent address in Thailand that is sighted.... Hope this experience of mine ( only ) may assist others! 🙂 -

And so the exodus of quality expats begins. This time it's personal
If your fighting the environment to that extent for that long Thailand may not be for you. It will wear on you over time if you can't adjust. It's much cooler here in Chiang Mai. No problems with the sweaty heat. Zero need for A/C. Do need a fan though. Pattaya was a mess. I could not even walk around much without getting all sweaty. I usually waited until after sunset to leave the condo most days. -

Documentary explores war crimes being posted on social media.
A few hundred terrorists on o e day attacked Israel. Hardly comparable to a year of bombs from planes, tanks and 17,000 kids dead and 19,000 orphaned and the Palestinians didn’t bomb Israeli hospitals and cut off food supplies did they. You can not be that dumb, you are just trolling and baiting. -

Yep, except I hated Pattaya people and attitudes (which were not avoidable), not the location per se. So I moved to Chiang Mai and will relocate to Hua Hin for the burning season. Same old story you have heard a hundred times before... The problem with Thailand is there ate not that many convenient places to settle in as a foreigner. So we have this big loop people go around on.
