Popular Post snoop1130
Thailand’s police inspector-general, Pol Gen Visanu Prasarttong-Osoth, has ordered all provincial police bureaux to conduct random checks of the physical and mental health of the men in every police station, in an attempt to ensure that they are healthy to avoid a repeat of the recent armed stand-off in Bangkok’s Sai Ma area involving an officer. In the incident, a police officer with reported psychiatric problems shot at his house with a handgun and then engaged in an armed stand-off with police for about 27 hours, which began on Tuesday morning. At noon yesterday (Wednesday) police decided to storm the house to disarm him. The officer was shot and taken to Bhumibol Hospital, where he died last night from his wounds. In addition to the random health checks, police should encourage members of the public to report any police officers who appear to have psychiatric disorders. Popular Post steven100
random health checks just means we want to make sure you can ride the motorbike to pick up the monthly brown envelope .... that's all. 7 2

Popular Post Enoon
No, not "Random health checks". Regular, frequent, mandated, structured checks/assessments on all personnel........no pay-offs, wais and promises to not go on the rampage accepted. "Random health checks" means when they can remember/be bothered to get off their fat backsides. 5 1 1

Popular Post Kenny202
My first observation would be it was reported his colleagues already knew this guy wasn't well, why they went to check on him. What good will random checks do anyway? Its not like sampling product to customers. Would have to be everyone and then more importantly findings acted on. That seems to be the problem here. A dollar short and a day late. Then a lot of promises and rhetoric, the messenger expecting kudos and praise before anything is actually done. And then all forgotten until the next time the wheels fall off. The worsening PM2 / air pollution problem and yearly promises to get tough a perfect example of that. Surely if they were serious about burning on farms it wouldn't be too hard to police. Usually can be seen in the night sky 20km away. Andycoops
So now yet again the Muppets expect the public to report any psychiatric symptoms, utter BS. Since when have ordinary citizens had any qualifications to determine when someone is suffering from mental disorders. As for the physical condition of officer's the number of pot bellied ones at my local station does make you wonder...

The Thai system is that he has spoken, made his recommendations, and his job is done. Anything that happens later is not his responsibility. You, I, he and everyone else knows that what is said will be ignored and is unenforceable, but that is not the point. He has acted, done what he considers to be his job, while actually doing nothing. This happens all the time, at least once a week. Someone makes a declaration and the next day it's ignored and forgotten. But that person has done their job by 'acting'. 1 1 1
mikebell
There was a similar incident in Pattaya last week with a mentally deranged cop. Added to the child massacre last year would suggest random checks are insufficient.

And "police should encourage members of the public to report any police officers who appear to have psychiatric disorders." Can you imagine the reaction at any police station if you walked in there and said "I've just been interviewed by one of your officers regarding ????? and I think he's off his rocker"! 1
