To whomever posted the "Laughing emoticon" to the question - what is funny about this?  It's a serious question and a very serious topic from multiple angles and reasons.  Changes are coming and we should civilly discuss them in an open and honest manner.

Discuss in an open/honest matter if it is the best to put the normal people in an open sky jail? Seriously? If that comes I immigrate to North Korea because they have more freedom than that.

And the easiest proof is that people who promote it, by themself a house direct on the beach, don't worry themself about the rising sea levels.

I blame Ms Greta and the sun.

Not planned that way, but we live in what would qualify as a 15-minute town

Approx 9000 people, 15km away in Chanthaburi city but if one chose, could get by comfortably here with minimal need to go to the city.

We have all this, could cycle anywhere in town in ten minutes.

And no bar or licensed cafe - perfect for some.

I would support efforts to reduce my need to travel far from home (for example, not having to go to Bangkok twice to renew my passport), but laws and regulations to restrict my movements - never.

It makes me wonder if Thai immigration will get with the program if the Thai government implements travel restrictions.  Knowing Thailand (TIT), they probably would insist you travel 100km to your "nearest" Immigration office, and then issue you a fine for traveling outside of your "zone."  ????  Hummm.

Regardless of how many people deny it, climate change is real and the billions of tons of fossil fuel that we burn every year is contributing to it.  Difficult choices will have to be made in the not-too-distant future: do I continue driving my SUV and watch the numbers of hurricanes and droughts increase?  or do I sweat my way through the tropical heat and humidity to work on a bicycle?

I would oppose a law mandating the above, but I would support urban planning and zoning and tax structures that would encourage people to live/work/learn in a local area.

What's to discuss?  Except perhaps how to put an end to the madness which seems to afflict so many.

I'm not quite in favour of social engineering by some of the worst qualified people in the world who want to control every aspect of my life.  But hey, that's just me.  Anyone who wants to freely walk into a jail cell is free to do so.  I'd think a bit deeper before making that choice.

Watch for the multitude of unintended consequences soon to develop.  All bad ideas produce one guaranteed result . . . problems.  Lots and lots of them.

The next "Lockdowns" are coming. Maybe the Covid pandemic was just a 'trial run' to get us used to being imprisoned in our own homes?

People actually voting for personal restrictions to be imposed on themselves and their families... The turkeys that just keep voting for Christmas.? ????

Is the goverment going to fund my relocation to a house that does not exist within a 15min drive from work ?

How about other supporting infrastructure like hospitals/schools/shopping etc etc.

The writing is all over the wall.  One just needs to read it.  One can, however, choose to ignore it.  And pretend that the people seeing what they clearly see are making it all up.  Don't trust your lyin' eyes would then be the advice given by those who can't see the obvious.

How about lock outs where citizens are prevented from using natural gas stoves in cities such as San Francisco. Or where citizens are shut out of purchasing new gas fueled vehicles by government mandates.

To be honest the care factor for natural gas usage in the USA rates very low on my list of things that concern me.

I thought you asked for examples of the next "lockdowns?"  You were given a few.  Granted, they weren't identical to Covid lockdowns but the flavour is all the same.  Restrictions and controlling the aspects of one's life.  So what to do?  Dismiss them as they're not high on your list!  Brilliant way of not having to answer when evidence is given.

During the Miocene Epoch, 23.03 to 5.3 million years ago, the earth had higher readings of carbon dioxide and the earth was warmer than today according to scientists. Of course, this was before man even populated the earth. So what caused the earth to cool later and the carbon dioxide levels to drop???

Answer: The advent of the 15 minute city.     NOT

But what about your values?  Do your values kick in only when they personally affect you?

mostly yes... certainly not for some gas shortage in the United States of Whatever.

Then it sounds like you stand for nothing except yourself.  I thought this topic was about making personal sacrifices and changing the way one lives for the lofty goal of saving the planet?  One needs to have values that then serve to preclude any negative personal affectations.

Rules for me and rules for thee.  I believe that's how the game is played.  But as long as we're doing our part we, at least, can claim the moral high ground.  That feels satisfying and makes our efforts worth it.  I'll do anything . . . eat bugs and fake meat for the rest of my life . . . I don't care.  At least I can feel good about myself for having helped save the planet in my small way.

Highly qualified and non qualified both.

It is we the people that have the power to change things before it is too late. Leave the decisions tho the 'white coated' - know everything - bods, and we are in big trouble.

Happy to restrict myself to a 15min drive if mandated by the government but they will have to build a lot of infrastructure to make the idea feasible.
