Thai caption: Foreign news media report bungee cord snapped, operator took care and paid money

Thai media 77kaoded went to the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park in Pattaya after Hong Kong news media reported that a tourist was injured when a bungee cord snapped.

He had travel insurance but racked up bills when he got home in the region of 220,000 baht.

The manager Natthaphon, 41, defended his operation.

He gave the media a full demonstration of their procedures that include weighing the jumper.

He said that the cord snapped near the water.

The tourist was taken to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where doctors gave him a full check and decided he had no injuries.

They were happy for him to fly home.

He was given a cash payment and refunded his jump fee.

The bungee jump had been in operation for seven years and had never had an accident before.

Natthaphon offered an apology for what happened.

Other online sources such as https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/21788944/horror-moment-tourists-bungee-cord-snaps-in-midair/ give the impression this wasn't agreed upon.

..and also suggest this is not the case.

All alleged of course. I wasn't there, have never been there and do not know.

Hopefully the travel insurance pays - i.e. hope the don’t use a ‘dangerous activities’ clause for wiggle-room not to pay out.

So typical - defending the indefensible !!!

Irrelevant, the bungee still parted !!

Irrelevant where it broke, it still broke !!!

220,00 baht for a checkup ??????   WOW !!!

Of course they were... out of sight out of mind !!!

That makes it alright then.. no harm no foul !!!

A van driver had never slid of the road killing all passengers before... must be safe then, just a one off !!!!

The very least they can do...

So they weighed the jumper... was the daily inspection of all equipment made with an overweight drop first thing every day before opening ?

But the bill was still 220,000 baht for what?

As the ‘injury occurred’ overseas while covered with travel insurance, would it not continue to cover incurred medical costs after reaching home ?

But... the point remains...  he was checked out in Thailand and given the all clear by doctors, then travelled home and faced the equivalent of 220,000 baht in medical bills which clearly indicates his health status was most definitely not ‘all clear’..

From the article linked in the 2nd post:

When he returned to Hong Kong, Mike had developed a lung infection as was revealed by a CT scan, MRI and X-ray.

He believed that he caught this from accidentally swallowing dirty lake water or had acquired it from the concussion.

After being hospitalised for three days in his home town, his medical costs had racked up to a hefty £5230 - but luckily for him, he had taken out travel insurance and wasn't lumped with the extortionate bill.

So we now know the bungee cord was 7 years old.    Never take any blame.  Just like my Thai wife.   After 5 years together I have finally got her to say she was sorry 2 times, and she made a mistake recently.

What you guys fretting about the 22,000 for?  Any western doc who saw the fall would want to do MRI, cat scan plus other tests,  looking for micro fractures, plus the lung infection which I can arrest to.  I got  a lung infection 2 times in Thailand. Once from mouldy hotel Aircon, one time from tuk tuk ride in BKK during a rain.    Lung infection would take a couple days to get bothersome.    3rd World country with first world ways to part people with their money.

It did.  The bungee operator paid his local hospital bill and his insurers paid his Hong Kong medical bill for a lung infection.

That was for three days hospitalisation in Hong Kong when he got home for a lung infection.  The Pattaya bill was £190.

No need to regularly renew. Would cut into profit.

Renew when snapped. Easy.

Big wai and point to the disclaimer that customer signed before jump.

I read an article in German and that also sounds much different from "all OK" by hospital, never had accident before bla bla.

One big bunch of liars.
