Popular Post webfact
Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan canvassing in Bangkok and in Krabi. Photo Matichon By Thai Newsroom Reporters PALANG PRACHARATH leader Prawit Wongsuwan today (Mar.23) confirmed there will be no more coup after the May 14 general election. Prawit told reporters at the Palang Pracharath party headquarters that no military coup will be repeated in foreseeable future no matter which party might possibly become core of a post-election government, including the Pheu Thai and his own. The Palang Pracharath leader remarked there will be no more political crisis among different sectors of society which might possibly otherwise prompt a coup following the May 14 election whereas, he said, his camp is obviously preoccupied with a “step beyond conflict” campaign. Popular Post Srikcir
It's disturbing that Prawit even makes this "offer." Shows he has the power to do another coup. He could offer inside that there will be no further conscrption (all volunteer military except when declaration of war), the military will give up all its private enterprises and natural resources, reduce its number of generals by half, take a 10% reduction in its budget for the next ten years to improve income inequality, allow semi-autonomy in the Muslim Southern provinces to obtain peace in a decades long insurrection, forbid active military from any political position require 5 years retirement for active military before pursuing political positions, etc. What he offers instead is just more elitism and barriers to democracy. 7 5 1

Popular Post Andycoops
Complete BS. They trot this out and they think people believe it when of course history continually repeats itself in the world hub of coups. Besides, as he's no longer in charge of the army it won't be him who decides to send in the troops but the current bunch of Muppets who want to get their fill from the trough.

Dene16
An air of authenticity must be given in order that an impression of fairness and democracy is perceived for the upcoming election If the end result of the election cannot be manipulated, don't worry, we have already installed 250 senators so that we/I will be voted in to be the next prime minister and still have complete control. Everyone a winner. 1

jesimps
Shame he didn't say that before the last one. "Prawit told reporters at the Palang Pracharath party headquarters that no military coup will be repeated in foreseeable future no matter which party might possibly become core of a post-election government, including the Pheu Thai and his own." Eric Loh
All military leaders should take the oath in front of the King and pledge no more coups. Wanted to say constitution if not for the military to shred after each coup. My belief is that future coups will be hard to intiate with many changes to the military structure and chain of command. KhaoYai
They don't need a coup again - ever. Didn't anyone see the new constitution in 2018? The Senate - (upper house of the goverment) must approve any election winner before he/she can become Prime Minister. The Senate is not an elected body - guess who chooses The Senate's ministers. The new constitution ensures that ultimately, The Military controls the country forever - hence they can say "No More Coups" 1

The new constitution ensures that ultimately, The Military controls the country forever - hence they can say "No More Coups" The 2018 constitution will likely to be amended if the government falls to the oppositions that have been fighting for a fully elected upperhouse. Even not amended, only 6 seats are guranteed for military personnels while the bulk of senators will be appointed by a civilian panel next year unlike the previous time when the NCPO chaired by Prawit made the appointments. The NCPO has been disbanded. So it may be a double edge sword if the appointed senators are not appointed by the military panel and no allegiance. However I feel strongly that the amendment will pushed through for elected senators.
