Thingamabob Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 It will be interesting to see how things pan out from here. Surely going to be difficult for Trump to get nominated by the GOP now, but he's the kind of guy who can never be ruled out.

I would love to see Trump in jail, but please for a real crime and not because he supposedly lied about a payment to a hooker. He should have been prosecuted a long time ago for treason. He should have been in jail for obstruction of justice. There are so many real bad things this guy did that it is amazing that he is not in jail. If he goes down basically because he f@$#%# that woman, then I understand why people are upset. Jail him for something real! There are more than enough real reasons. First they brought charges against things in his vicinity and checked how that goes. The result was the conviction of the Trump Organization on 17 criminal charges and a few people around him. Now they are bringing criminal charges directly against him but starting with the smallest case. The hammer will fall later. It's a very delicate and unprecedented thing. They'll need to handle it carefully and strategically. Who is "they"? 1

It will only make our support for him that much stronger. Wait until the shoe is on the other foot! Look, this guys was never just "one of us." There are multiple books and articles going back to the 90s written on the subject. The only strange thing is how poorly he was vetted when running for office. I guess no one thought he'd win, and the media found covering him entertaining and profitable. But if you read his history - books and articles published going back decades, you'll find: Some think there's ample evidence that his family property business was involved in money laundering for the Italian mob at least as far back as the 80s. Some think there's ample evidence that he became a confidential informant (CI) for the FBI against the Italian mob, in the 80s or 90s Some think there's ample evidence that he merely used CI status for protection from crimes he did with the Italian mob. But once the Italian mob was vanquished, he just switched to money laundering for the Russian mob Some think there's ample evidence that he continued money laundering for the Russian mob through his casinos, property developments, hotels and golf courses from the late 80s onwards This guys was never just "one of us." The mistake he made was running for office. Likely he did it for publicity and money. He never dreamed (nor did anyone else it seems) that he would actually get elected. 2 3 3 "Why do some places prosper and thrive, while others just suck?" - P.J. O'Rourke

In Full Agreement Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Does this mean Donald Dump is not above the law? Will he actually be held accountable for crimes he's committed. His trial likely won't begin before the 2024 Presidential Election. Is it conceivable he could be running for President while being tried for alleged crimes?

My understanding and this has of course never been tested is that if elected president while in prison, he would be let out as long as he is president. Of course trump would become a president for life as he's obviously a wannabe dictator so that would take care of it. Also the new president if not him could pardon him like Nixon was pardoned.

PPGuy Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Interesting Newsweek Op-Ed on Biden giving Trump a pardon. https://www.newsweek.com/president-biden-should-give-trump-pardonprecisely-because-he-doesnt-deserve-one-opinion-1790584. I recall there was some discussion about whether he secretly gave himself a pardon in the final days of his term in office. Also if that is even a possibility. Maybe we are about to find out..........
