He was due to have surgery on Thursday this week so he had brought 81,500 baht of his savings along in a bag.

After visiting his brother he went to the park, called his wife, put the bag containing the money on his side and promptly fell asleep.

He woke to find the bag and money and his and his brother's Thai ID missing as well as his telephone.

He borrowed a local's phone to call his wife who also burst into tears on hearing the news.

Adisorn tried to console her advising her to calm down lest her blood pressure rise.

He called on the thief to give him back his money, reported Daily News.

What a strange story;  he had just been to visit his brother in the hospital, so why didn’t he deposit the money with the hospital cashier.

I don't see how they can prove this incident really happened. Too risky to just go up to someone assumed to be sleeping and lift a bag containing 81,500 Baht. Cud have been the sleepers sandwiches. I'll say it never happened.

Very sad if true , I know Thais can fall asleep anywhere, one yesterday was

asleep among  the electrical wires on a pole, and they often do it while behind

the wheel of a vehicle, but to do it in a park ,with that much money ,unbelievable,

expect he will get a good hiding off the wife ,(she looks a lot bigger than him) when

he gets home,

Perhaps he did not plan to drop off, it just happened and I'd guess that he didn't just have a pile of money next to him.

Probably because he didn't need to deposit it at the hospital and he was not planning on having it stolen.

You don't think that it's possible than an opportunistic thief could just lift the bag while the man was dozing and got lucky?   Thankfully, he doesn't have to prove that it happened to cynical AN posters.

No

Why, what would be so difficult about it?

You usually pay after the operation when you get a bill itemizing the costs. The original article says he is a labourer so it's quite possible he doesn't have a bank account, hence collected the money in cash.

A sad story, they're going to have to get the money from somewhere, just hope it's not loan sharks.

I also think that this story does not add up.

Why was he carrying around that amount of cash? If it was to pay the hospital, well he had already been there so why didn't he?

Nobody with a brain cell would have that money in a bag and lay it beside them and have a sleep. He could have shoved it down his trousers.

Actually a bit more info in the original article. There was a witness who was eating with relatives about 50 meters away and observed the potential thief standing near the victim. The witness looked away when the suspected thief looked in their direction so did not see the actual theft take place but they were able to give a description of the suspect.

Another person attempted to call the stolen cell phone 2-3 times but then it was turned off.

Damn Sad for him & Bro all concerned money + cell phone in bag taken for walk, thieves are opertunisistic scum hanging out at hospital easy pickings maybe , Was in Thai hospital on Koh Samui prior to op and treatment paid up like deposit balance after  placed credit card as collateral being foreigner ,  maybe things have changed no deposit no op in old days sad story if true ????

I don't understand why the operation is not free under the national health system. Anyway, a fool and his money are soon parted.

Many good reasons as to why he's not having the op done under the 30 Baht scheme. Unfortunately we do not have full info as to why not.

Well why was he walking around carrying such a large amount of cash if he didn’t need to pay the hospital. He was there so could easily have deposited it with the hospital’s cashier, received a receipt, and then the funds could have been used later to pay for, or go towards, the hospital’s invoice.

What makes me suspicious of this story is how he remembered his wife's phone number.  Before modern phones I had an almost photographic memory of numbers.  Now, because I don't actually dial them anymore, the only number I know is my own. How many of you can remember your wife's number?

Stunt, hoping for donations???

Probably because he'd told his brother that he had the money to pay for his brother's surgery but didn't really have it or didn't want to give it to him therefore made up the story he was going to give his brother the money but that it had been stolen.
