A very sad but not entirely unexpected turn of events, I’ve had 5 years of my wife’s family wanting this and that can they borrow money, can we pay for their scooter repairs, can we buy school uniforms and shoes for the kids and on and on it went, now I have lived here for two years I put a stop to all of it, and now with the exception of her brother, none of the family talk to me…as soon as the money and support stops they just cut you off! I’m not bothered by it and don’t really care to be honest, as a foreigner here in Thailand you are only ever seen as a cash cow.

Possibly the loans have all been for the Thai man.  He boasts to his friends that he can get money from the farang whenever he wants.  Finally the foreigner says no and the Thai man loses face.  This makes the Thai man fly into a rage and murder seems like a perfectly appropriate response for the terrible thing that the foreigner has done to him.

Why were they asking the farang co-manager and not the Thai owner for loans and advance payments?

 

Oh yeah, they know the Thai owner would tell them to <deleted>-Off and get back to work. 

 

 

People say, don't help Thais.

 

1) the won't appreciate it, and will take advantage of it.

2) they'll think you're soft and stupid, and have zero respect for you.

3) when you stop helping them, they will hate and resent you.

1. dont lend money to Thais

2. Dont drink with Thai men unless you have known them for years.

3 Never sleep with a Thai woman who is a friend of your gf or wife.

4. Avoid soi Thai men who ride motorbikes. Never yell or argue with them. All Thais have access to a gun.

I suspect it's true. 

The husband probably thinks that because the Farang owns a resort, he must be making millions. 
Therefore he probably thought his wife's 8000 baht (just as an example) salary for being a cleaner was too little.
I'm guessing the husband built up a load of resentment in his mind for the 'rich farang' who he maybe though should have shared the wealth out more, until it became too much and he attacked him.  

I could be wrong of course.

Remembered an article, was also in TVF then, Thai father killed son in law for some dispute and with that also killed his own daughter. 

We are still with too many people on this earth and it's my guess we will hear lots of more "stories" about people killing people. It is just a fact of live.

Sounds fairly logical.  I get the impression that some Thais resent foreigners for their perceived riches yet don't feel anything about wealthy Thais.

 

Again, it all comes down to racism/prejudice and entitlement.

Just my opinion, but I feel like Thai culture instils a certain amount of entitlement and fragility in some men, which is then combined with racism when it comes to foreign people.  And of course the whole "losing face" thing.

 

It seems that a lot of Thai men are raised to pretty much think they can do whatever they want.  There is no real punishment at school, cannot fail even if they do no work, parents don't punish them, criticism is a big no-no, and so on.  There is also an alarming amount of dependency, where some grown Thai men are happy to rely on their mothers, sisters, wives, etc., to support them financially through handouts.

 

Then you throw in the element of a foreigner and you're bringing in racism, resentment, further feelings of entitlement to money, coupled with the idea that you won't really face any consequences for attacking a non-Thai.

For a repetitive offender like him certainly shouldn't be out on the street repeating the same or worse anytime soon. If you think he should I'm sure you would have a different view had he killed a loved on of yours. Some people are habitual criminals without regard for their actions. Defending him shows a good deal about character

As have been said already , crazy’s are all over the world. I don’t agree with the ‘ never argue with a Thai man’ though. I have had plenty of rows with other men be it Thai or whoever over money or something else in my life..  I really don’t believe showing weakness is going to save you from someone willing to commit murder over something petty.  I always have something close just in case….the world is full of nutters and always have been . We just hear about it these days.
