Are you still out there socially at your age ?

This is aimed at guys mostly 60yo plus , Are you still going out to social events wherever you are ?

 

I was reading posts on old Thai expats who say they are staying  themselves in their house for a week because of songkran.....but what about you guys in your 60's 70'd even 80's WHO  actually go out to enjoy it ,!!!! 

Those of you who get involved 

 

Just I read of bitter posts but where are you all who go out there and mix with the younger crowd who go to the outdoor concerts zthe fireworks at night etc 

 

I'm not talking about you old guys who go to the same bar every night and social I'm taking you old guys who go out to the festivities stuff in your Asian country 

 

 

I don't care if your in Thailand or Philippines or Bali ,do you still go out on a weekend night and enjoy stuff and events ? Mix with younger people 

 

It seems a lot of expats as a hey age sit in their condo on a weekend and watch cable or social media nowadays 

 

Despite your age are you out there ?  Are you going out to places 

 

You see many stay home once they hit old age even expats they don't like crowds ,they don't like mixing with young people

I'm not keen on getting rat diseased moat water thrown on my head/face.

And don't want to be knocked off my m/c by drunks or people throwing buckets of ice and water over me as I drive along the road.

But if you enjoy it, why not!

 

I avoided socialising during Songkran, but was back out as normal this week.

I have no problem mixing with much younger Thai ladies, but zero interest in mixing with thuggish drunken young males from the UK/Oz/NZ.

Does anybody except old men want to talk to you at those festivities?

I think it's a lot more fun to be surrounded by girls who like to make us happy. 

And no, it doesn't have to be the same bar every night. Why restrict yourself to one?

In my almost 20 years in Pattaya I've warmed more bar stools than I care to admit.At 72 I am no longer interested in socializing with people that I used to represent.I'm a homebody these days.Here I am answering this forum.That should tell the story.

I've had more than my share of fun in "fun city" I sold my last HD a few years ago due to health.

I feel I no longer fit in and most of the conversations bore that crap out of me.My bucket list is complete.I'm basically content these days in > Heaven's Waiting Room <

None for me. Stopped all of that when I left grad school, got married, started a career and a family. Never really developed any friendships outside of work and never mixed that with family time. If I wanted to do that here the nearest bar is 30 minutes away. About the same for our home in Tennessee. 
 

I’m 65 now. Best I can tell most expats aren’t interested in socializing. Most avoid even eye contact.

I'm guessing the old guys who go out to these events wouldn't be sitting on this forum ,they would be out there now I guess enjoying life .

 

I was walking home from work last night in Sydney about 1030pm only to see a drag queen probably in his 60's lining up outside a bar to get in ...it was a cold night and I had respect for someone like that who actually goes out to mix with the drunks and young people and lines up on a cold night to get into a bar rather than the rest of us who would prefer to go home and watch midsummer murders or touch of frost on tv

No we're obviously sitting here bickering over nothing, in reference to just about everything, because it's free, and a lot more interesting than telling a bar-girl with broken English where my name, what I'm from, when I do, which I go. And how mutt you pay.

been there done it, and done with it. The last festival I enjoyed was Hua Hin Jazz festival, and will do next one I have chance to attend, but Songkran is more a family event for us back home, quiet and nice in our garden. 

 

We did attend the beach festival New Year, crazy, and dangerous

Not sure you need to go out to fireworks.

I can stand on my balcony at home and see the Loi Kratong celebrations.

Not to mention, less chance of a rocket in the ear.

 

Surprised you manage to leave your hospital bed at all, with your extensive collection of unusual medical ailments.

An old white woman talked to me at the gym today. OK-ish looking. Seriously, mind blown. First time ever for: 1) someone talking to me at the gym 2) a white woman here talking to me at all.

 

Pot bars are very social and all ages. If you can resist boomer-lecturing and remembering when a slice of pizza was a quarter, people are happy to engage. Just don't harsh their mellow. No Trump talk, etc.

 

Over on Reddit Chiang Mai, someone was asking about bars where tourist oldies might socialize. I asked: you mean non-pay for play bars? People were urging him to try Cooking School. I threw him a bone and suggested The Writer's Bar.

I used to go out quite a bit and drive my car to many places during the Covid hysteria but now with tourism back to normal, I tend to stay near home. And now, it is just to hot, polluted and stinky to go out and socialize. Last year we had allot of rain at this time but this year is the complete opposite.

The longer I'm here, the less I want to do.

 

Twas a time when I'd be carefully parsing every bowl of Khao Soi Noodles in Chiang Mai, or visiting every night market in Hua Hin. And of course, visiting every last waterfall.

 

10 months in, I find it hard to leave whatever soi I'm on. Most of the soi's are pretty good, just like the one next to it.

I say dance parties because last time I was there I saw a Gay pride party in the street going in for several days in jomtien and I saw old farangs all topless dressing like teenagers dancing to techno music

Both I think. As the libido decreases there is less incentive to make the effort to get out. To be honest, the more I know of Thai society the less I respect them. Thailand is so corrupt, it is like Thai people are born with a corrupt gene. The ladies are fun but most are uneducated and boring.

Yes ,I saw older gay farangs dancing to techno type music last time I walked through jomtien , they seemed to be European older very fit looking tourist guys with bodybuilder type physical but they were out late at night at their age .

 

Maybe they still do clubbing in Germany or wherever they come from at their age and good luck to them ,I'm jealous

I'm 78yo and I still get out and about. I must admit though what I used to do all night takes me all night to do now.

I socialize on my own terms. Loud parties, where everyone has to yell at one another to conduct a conversation, are my idea of some level of hell.

I've never been too thrilled about being one unit in a mass of people. I am comfortable with my own company most of the time.

Not interested anymore been there done it got the 'T' Shirts,  don't do Christmas or birthdays either great. 

Free to enjoy my hobbies and ride my bike on bike trip all over Thailand.

Why would one envy them, unless it's something you want to do, but are unable to do so because of a disability etc?

 

Everyone finds happiness in different ways.  I am at my happiest when I'm on my own, doing my hobbies.  Do you need to mix with others to be happy?  Everyone is different.

Have you ever actually lived here in the LOS? Not stayed a few months, but lived here and interacted in Thai society.

One problem with techno dancing is that the other techno dancers consider your old self to be a bit of a downer just by being there.

I'm 68, I get out frequently when time permits. I've been to Bangkok twice in the past month to exhibitions, went to Nana Plaza on both occasions and soi cowboy on one. I went to soi 6 today, met some nice girls, got a line number. I cancelled a couple of engagements tonight to take a rest. I went to Republic nightclub in walking street about a month ago with friends. Two weeks ago wen to Koh Larn for my first visit and went to the Pattaya music festival Koh Larn edition. But generally I'm pretty quiet.
