42.4% of working Thai people, aged from 15 years and up, are overweight and at risk of developing non-communicable diseases, because of their lifestyle involves frequent consumption of fast food, insufficient exercise and socialising in eateries.

According to Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director-general of the Health Department, a survey of working Thais, conducted during 2019 and 2020, shows that the average body mass index (BMI) of males is 24.2 and 25.2 for females, which are regarded as higher than normal.

The findings also show that 37.8% of working Thai males and 46.4% of working females are regarded as fat and, of these, 27.7% of the males and 50.4% of the females have belly fat.

Unfortunately, the workers seem to grab something cheap and these meals rarely contain vegetables.

Rice or noodles with pork or chicken, deep fried foods, meat on a stick, sugary street coffees add up to fatness.

Yes, with my b/f (40 years younger than me) I try to avoid preaching but that doesn't work anyway. I try to set an example - high on vegs, high on salmon, low on carbs of all kinds & sources ... - but that doesn't work.

The only thing that works is his vanity and the approach to a week in Bangkok & the gay disco. Then he slims down nicely, though not by eating healthy, just by not eating. (Sigh)

I'd be curious as to who conducts such inaccurate surveys and the inconclusive evidence that they come by...

Akin to any poll, survey, rating or whatever.

A minute few are used to create an imaginary deduction.

Looks good on paper, though.

More likely the drinks they have. Super high sugar drinks daily. Pork and noodles won't make you fat without added sugar.

I recently stumbled on the password for a very old account I had on Thaifriendly.  It still worked.

After browsing for a few minutes I was absolutely gobsmacked at how fat all of the girls were.

15 or so years ago when I was using the account I used to browse for girls under 50kg.  Now you are hard pressed to find any under 60kg and many are over 70kg.

Researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have found that many very old people — age 95 and older — could be poster children for bad health behavior with their smoking, drinking, poor diet, obesity and lack of exercise.

The very old are, in fact, no more virtuous than the general population when it comes to shunning bad health habits, leaving researchers to conclude that their genes are mostly responsible for their remarkable longevity.

Catching up with the west fast... I see a lot of porkers out there now which 20 years ago was in the minority.

Would be interesting to see how the stats for Thailand's expat community compare.

And the police. It just might be the tight shirts but they do look to eat well!

A family friend aged 28 puts 3 heaped teaspoons of sugar on his noodles which he consumes 3 times a day, always washed down with a large Pepsi..

He refuses to eat any vegetables or fruit.

He's now topping 110 kg with weak knees, poor blood circulation and waddles like a duck.

He won't make 40 at this rate.

It depends on your definition of 'working'!  Thais have a genetic pre-disposition to idleness.

Excuse me, those meat on a stick are not increasing calories...actually, they should eat more meat on the stick with vegetables and avoid the carbs.

Sugar in everything .. noodles, etc. unless you ask them to not add it, even soup broth has sugar added so no choice really, not to mention too much salt. Also, western fast food joints invaded Thailand years ago. An ice latte is full of sugar and cream. Education is the key but it is not an easy process. The medical costs down the road will be huge.
