kentrot
Why is it that these episodes always happen in the middle of the night and not in broad daylight ? Oh yea --- after a belly full of booze .... and doesn't anyone wear helmets when riding motorbikes in the wee hours anymore ? Maybe the BIB's can add that infraction to the charges against the brave guy who blindsided the tuk tuk driver.

Most of the foreigners here would just pay up. Whilst I agree in general with your sentiment, punching or striking someone/anyone over a small accident and running away is unacceptable! 1 2

Yes, no excuse but I can understand it. These taxi drivers have 'hittable' faces. I got hit by a taxi driver once in Nontaburi for not paying a huge, unfair fare. I instinctively hit him back. He went back to the car and took out a crowbar to try to beat me up, but decided against it.

I hope that they get to spend the remaining of their holiday in detention. They've probably been reading stories about how Thai men normally fight in packs, and decided to be "pro-active"! Still, a very bad advert for young Brits in general, and hopefully they get their just desserts. (P.S. Nice to see the old pointing finger is back, along with the Crime Reenactments Team which caused a Brit father to react quite predictably when within touching distance of his son's murderer.)

But the reality is, no violence should have been used at all.. BUT... this is Thailand and whenever there is a confrontation, violence is usually very quick to follow... the difference here is that it was not a group of Thai’s who instigated it...

I'm a Brit and I think nowadays some youngsters are less in control of themselves. They get a few tattoos and think they are invincible. I suspect maybe it would... we never know of course.... but we’ve seen it too many times. A discussion gets ‘heated’... violence is soon to follow as people can’t control there emotions and if they have a solid back-up, then voice is quicker to follow. The issue with places like Pattaya and Phuket is that there are too many Thai’s resentful of foreigners just waiting for the opportunity to throw a little violence their way. But again, in this case the Brits were extremely stupid. Just now, Smokey and the Bandit said: I realize the tuk tuk driver was probably ask for ridiculous compensation for the accident, but surely remaining calm and negotiating a fair price would have been far better? 100% agree.... But, I’ve witnessed similar situations - someone feigning outrageous damages, screaming and shouting... the cannot be appeased.... Soon others come around, and see the ‘Thai’ getting angry and they too are soon influenced by their actions. Its difficult to subdue such situations... 3
