So what is wrong with asking for the election results to be issued promptly? That's not "interfering" - the result is not going to be altered in any way. (Unless "the protestors" are trying to get some of the results invalidated, in which case, that is interference!!!)

There are probably fewer countries in the world where the US hasn't interfered over the years than the ones they have, but in every case they've done so for a bigger geopolitical reason be it the Cold War or control of energy resources or an attempt to remove a government deemed unfriendly to US commercial interests. None of these are in play right now here, and, indeed, the Prayut regime has allowed the US to construct major China listening posts in both Chiang Mai and Bangkok. The military regime has bent over backwards to make the US happy and the US is very happy.

The US has just offered the Thai military advanced F-16s and F-15s - new ones unlike the ancient secondhand stuff they currently have in their hangers - so they are hardly conspiring against them. There is no advantage strategically for the US to push a MFP government aside from a desire to see a working democracy (and the US has always been somewhat self-servingly selective in advancing that desire).

Actually we did not let the USA go its own way.

 

There was a civil war over no taxation without representation during which us Brits lost badly and were kicked out of the USA.

 

The US were in a similar position to Thailand under the Thai military and its coups.

 

The US wanted to rule itself and so do the majority of Thais as is THEIR right. There are only a small number of rabid royalists in yellow shirts and about the same number in the military.

 

There are far more free thinking Thais of all ages and they voted against the military parties and the rabid royalists.

Last time, for those of you in Thailand long enough, prior to the last 'event' I can't use the real word, I think it was a group of 20 of Suthep's mob who were spouting the same nonsense outside the embassy.

 

I think the general belief is that the new Government will be more Western looking rather than China focused, That I'm sure in certain circles won't be welcomed.

The idea that the US, or any other Western Government gives a rats a**s about the Thai monarchy is ludicrous, but this is Thailand and you just roll your eyes. 

 

But I do hope it this isn't a sign of a repeat performance of last time is in the making!

We are talking about South East Asia here. The Gulf of Tonkin incident started the Vietnam War.
The US supported and propped up the Lon Nol regime which led to the Khmer Rouge taking power in Cambodia. Not to mention your ‘secret war’ and carpet bombing of innocent civilians.

The US then supported the Khmer Rouge as the rightful govt. of Cambodia at the UN even after the extent of the genocide had been uncovered.
