Pressure mounts on EC to announce May 14th election results

Members of civic groups monitoring the May 14th general election gathered at the Office of the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday to demand a speedy announcement of the poll results.

 

A letter, addressed to the EC chairman, demands that they announce the poll results as quickly as possible and explain the delay.

 

Yingcheep Atchanont of iLaw, one of the demonstrators, said that it has been a month since the election on May 14th and the recounting of votes at over 40 polling stations was completed on June 11th, therefore, there is no justification for the EC’s continued procrastination.

 

Although the EC has 60 days after the election to announce results, Yingcheep said that it is unnecessary for them to take such a long time, noting that, in the previous general elections, the EC took only 16 days to announce the 2005 election results, 29 days in 2007, 24 days in 2011 and 45 days in 2019.

 

The longer the delay, he claimed, the more the people will become suspicious and lose faith in the EC.

You shouldn't be surprised as to the outstanding number that consider things are different this time around......and "change" is the dreamy clarion that is heard everywhere - especially deluded foreign types.

Delaying is a magic word in Thailand, Nothing can go swift and smoothly. Now we have to deal with a few complaints, a result of the election that is not accepted, because the winners are not military backgrounded. The old school will try to prevent that these people can form a  Government, as they are out of power. The EC  has to find rules, outdated laws, or other reasons to prevent that the choice of the people of Thailand will be respected...

How were they selected? All commissioners are appointed by the king, with the advice of the Senate of Thailand; for a term of seven years. The current commission is the fourth team of election commissioners, appointed 12 August 2018.

 

Who replaces them when their term ends in 2025?

 

There are so many fingers on the scales, all on one side of course.

Good news for MF

71 MP candidates are yet to be endorsed out of the 500 for a full house.

There are no problems with the 100 Party List MPs ( apart from Pita!) so investigations following complaints of irregularities apply to the following parties..

23 Bhumjaithai candidates

17 PT candidates 

16 Palang Pracharat candidates 

6 MF candidates

3 Democrat candidates

3 Ruam Thai Srang Chart 

2 Thai Srang Thai 

1 Thai Ruam Palang

So we can see of the proposed coalition, 25 candidates are at risk of yellow or red cards ( I' m not sure if Thai Ruam Palang are in the coalition or not).

And of these, PT stand to lose the most.

For the military backed parties, 45 candidates are at risk.

So even if all proposed coalition party MPs are red carded and all the military backed candidates are cleared ( a very unlikely scenario) the coalition still has a clear majority to form a government.

In fact, they're likely to increase their majority when you consider 23 Bhumjaithai and 16 Palang Pracharat candidates are being investigated!

I first saw it on Channel 3 news this morning and then read the details from Thai PBS' website.

I believe the news leaked from documents at the EC.

Regarding Pita, I believe the senators will never vote for him as PM but MF could well increase their number of MPs over PT

This would be extremely problematic, IMO. No unattributed source at the EC should be releasing this information, nor should any news source publish it.

The information that you provided could be accurate as it correspond to the official announcement by the EC on 14 June that they have confirmed 330 MPs-elect. The EC will not officially endorse them yet pending results of a probe into another 50 constituency MPs.

As far as I understand, the new Senators will be selected by selection committees, committees which will be selected by the EC. Coming full circle as usual.

They will know for sure on 13 July latest. It might be later though as you could also see the inability to figure out eight years of sitting on the prime ministers sedan chair which got slightly extended to 9+. 

Lets wait and see, an interesting summer ahead ????

As it was set up originally, the elite felt they required a bias and partial governing body to "monitor" elections. 

All one has to do is look into the EC's history and you'll understand what they're about and why/how they operate.
