I will be quite honest, and I doubt that you will like it so!   However, taking a quick look at your profile and some of your posts, it strikes me that you come across as fairly aggressive i

So this really is not about Thais, it is about you Bogs.  That is a lot of aggression.

No need to ask, he has answered already.

good morning. I would like some advice on how to deal with my negative view of thai people.

First . I am 66 years old and I did not want to spend what little life I have left reading  this long op dietribe .

So from what little I have read i would say.

It's not that you think that Thais are so bad, but that you  think that you are sooo much better. Simply an attempt to, than rather invest in making yourself better, trying to make everyone else seem worst.

This attitude manifests in subtle ways in everything you say and do , and regardless what you think  Thais are not stupid. . They can sense your attitude, and behave accordingly.

People don't like people that dont like them. That is true for them, is true for you and it's true for me.

Change you attitude, and change your perspective ,Climb a hill and you will see the forest from the trees.

I think anywhere in the world that would apply - I don't think anywhere, anyone, would want to sit next to someone who is dirty, disheveled and looks like they might have lice - - I am not saying that you do, but if it happens to you and not others...

and you do seem to worship Boggs, so, there is a 'creep' vibe that people can give off... and that might not show up in the mirror...

A really effective way of improving Thai's attitudes to you is to learn to speak some Thai and start with "thank you".

Would it be considered bad form if I was to make a  "I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany." comment.

Have you learned to speak Thai? Do you attempt to communicate with Thais?

I will never be fluent in Thai. Having said that, Thais do love jokes, and plays on words. I have learned quite a few rude slang expressions which they enjoy when it is self-deprecating humor.

If you think Thais are racist ( and they are ) you should try the Chinese and Japanese. Thais are mild by comparison.

Most Thais have never been outside Thailand, their mindset is rooted in a nagging sense of inferiority.

Your mindset needs to change if you want to enjoy life here. How you do that is up to you.

dont thais have a simialr attitude toward cambodian/lao/burmese people?

perhaps their dislike for us is rooted in the fact that they feel inferior to foreigners because they know they are not above us in the world pecking order?

if thats the case then it aint my fault i was born with white skin!

Maybe too much of it? Do you change your clothes often? Do you speak loud?

Learn the power of indifference. Don't expect much from other humans and you will cease to feel disappointed.

thhen on the bus on thre way home, there was only 1 seat available so i sat down. the man got up from his seat and stood up instead of having to sit next to a farang.

My last few trips to Bangkok have been following hip surgery. I was walking with a cane and an obvious limp. Every time I went on the crowded AirportLink or Skytrain, some Thai person would get up and offer a seat to me.

Sure , they are human and are motivated by the same human complexes . if asked,I would give them the same as to the Op.

And there it is!

They don't feel inferior to you , they resent you superiority complex.

I struggle to see how sitting quietly at a table drinking a coffee exerts a superiority complex? enough to make the woman move away?

did you even read my OP?

i am not an aggressive person. at least i dont strive to be. not sure what an aggressive demeanor is? and how can we control how others perceive us?

You can't control what others think or feel, only your own actions. If someone is uncomfortable around you and you aren't doing anything to promote that issue then it's on the other person not you.

Not sure where you live that you have such experiences but maybe a change of area would show you a different reaction set.

What you describe is nothing remotely like you portray about blacks and the civil rights movement.

You as the OP seem to have a chip on your shoulder. Who is being rude, racist, and trying to cheat you? Sad to live abroad and wake up each day feel like this. What is the point?

Review yourself.....bad clothes? Smelly? Political TShirt?

It never happened to me....Actually I only see cheerful people.

On the other hand, with your table experience, I would not notice it, I would not think anything and if I would think they would like to sit closer to the AC or window or something. I would not think it has anything to do with me.

No they had it infinitely worse than anything you're experiencing and shouldn't even come into the conversation as a comparison.

two wrongs dont make a right, do they?

discrimination is discrimination and can happen to anyone regardless of the color of their skin!

I did not, but I don't think I have to.

I don't know what happened while drinking your coffee , but I am willing to bet that it did not occur in a vacuum and is a part of of a wider interaction complex. Or perhaps you you are right and you are involved with bad people.

There good and bad in every culture. But you did say, "Thais" which leads me to believe that it is a a problem you have with Thais in general and not with the people at the table .

So I will go and read the rest of your OP and perhaps I am wrong, in which case I will apologise.

I tend to agree with the OP,   you can have a bus full of Thais and they will very reluctantly sit in the only vacant seat next to a farang. They are racist.  But OP, you don't need any help to comes to terms with that,  just accept and don't think about it, move on through your day and give them that fake smile back.  I have good Thai friends who I wouldn't consider the same, we go out drink, have food whatever,  but there are all the others.

When I travel by bus to Udon Thani, about a 2 hour trip, I never have some local sit beside me, I quite like that. If only, it worked on flights.
