TWO Germans wanted in the murder and dismemberment of a German businessman in Chonburi last week have been arrested with the third suspect, a Pakistani who holds Thai nationality, still being hunted, Matichon newspaper quoted police as saying late Tuesday evening (July 11).

Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, nicknamed Big Joke, had asked Pattaya Provincial Court to issue arrest warrants for three suspects in the murder and dismemberment of Mr. Hans-Peter Mack, 62, namely Mr. Olaf Thorsten Brinkmann and Mrs. Petra Christl Grundgreif, both German nationals, and Mr. Sahruek Kareem Uddin, a Pakistani holding Thai nationality.

Mack had disappeared after driving from his house at a housing estate in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, around noon on July 4 to go meet a foreign broker at Jomtien beach to discuss the purchase of a land plot on Koh Samui worth hundreds of millions baht.

In a significant development in the high-profile German businessman murder case, Royal Thai Police apprehended a woman thought to be instrumental in the crime. Petra Christl Grundgreif, a German national, who reportedly played a key role in the gruesome murder of real estate tycoon Hans Peter Mack, was arrested today at Nong Prue Police Station, Chon Buri province.

Police issued arrest warrants for a total of three suspects involved in the premeditated killing and concealment of the corpse of 62 year old Mack. The other suspects are also German nationals, named Olaf Thorsten Brinkmann and another unidentified German man. All are accused of theft and intentional murder.

At approximately 3.20pm, investigators took Petra into custody for her involvement in the intentional killing and likely concealment of Mack’s remains. Upon her arrest, she fiercely resisted media attention, refusing to let her image be captured by press cameras and declining interviews.

Reportedly, while she was being transported to the Nong Prue Police Station, Petra snatched a reporter’s mobile phone, intending to throw it to the ground, but was prevented from doing so.

POLICE are gearing up to ask Pattaya Provincial Court to issue arrest warrants for two Germans and a Pakistani in the brutal murder of a German real estate businessman who disappeared in Chonburi last week and whose dismembered body was found in a freezer placed at a house in this same province last night, Naewna newspaper said Tuesday afternoon (July 11).

Mr. Hans-Peter Mack, 62, disappeared after driving from his house at a housing estate in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, around noon on July 4 to go meet a foreign broker at Jomtien beach to discuss the purchase of a land plot on Koh Samui worth hundreds of millions baht.

Police investigating his disappearance found his dismembered body in a freezer at a house in Chokchai Garden Home 1 estate. The body had been cut up into 13 parts separately placed in black plastic bags and put into this freezer which was plugged in at a bedroom. His head had deep wounds showing he had been hit several times. His body parts were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.

Main Suspect in Murder of Hans Peter Mack Arrested in Pattaya by Thai Police
By Adam Judd

Pattaya, Thailand-A team of police led by Surachate Hakparn, better known by his popular nickname of Big Joke, Thailand’s most well-known cop, arrested Mr. Oraf Thorsten Brinkmann, German, this evening, July 11th, 2023. Oraf, sometimes called Olaf, had been the main suspect wanted in the murder of Hans Peter Mack, a 62-year-old German businessman and is accused of being the ringleader of the operation.

Mr. Mack had been missing since July 4th, 2023, with a three million baht reward offered for finding him safely. Unfortunately, his dismembered and mutilated corpse was found in a freezer at a villa in the Chokchai Garden Village 1 last evening by Banglamung and Nongprue authorities.

This took place after another suspect in the murder of Hans surrendered today and a person of interest who resided at the home where Mr. Mack’s dismembered body was found was discovered hiding at a restaurant, although police have not called her a suspect.

By Adam Judd

Pattaya, Thailand-A German woman who Thai police issued an arrest warrant for under suspicion of being involved in the murder of German businessman Hans Peter Mack, 62, in Pattaya, Thailand has surrendered to Thai police.

Update as of 8:30 P.M. July 11th: A disabled German woman who lived at the home involved in the murder has been found. Police stress, however, she is not a suspect.

Mrs. Petra Christl Grundgreif, accompanied by a lawyer, surrendered to Thai police at the Nongprue police station at 3:00 P.M. today, July 11th, 2023. She had an active arrest warrant for alleged involvement in the murder and dismembering of German businessman Hans Peter Mack, as we covered here earlier.

Petra declined to speak to the media and did not immediately release a plea in the case.

She had previously been interviewed by Thai police over the weekend but at the time they did not have enough evidence to detain her.

I wonder where they killed him? Obviously they set up an ambush, he walked in, somebody in another room or behind a door snuck up on him. Bashed him on the head with a heavy weapon. Man that's dirty.

Then cut him up with a chainsaw? These people are the lowest of the low.

This must have involved some very tall dollar business dealings and a heated, irreconcilable dispute, what with cutting one business partner into chopped steak. The murder tends to sound more like it happened impulsively as opposed to being planned. (if planned, not very good planning).

I used to live in this estate they kept him in - in reality its only about 100m from me now. Very cheap estate, 9,000 baht month for 2 bed house, mostly Thais since we moved out. Seems very strange for them to use this house whilst doing multi million $ deals.

What pique my interest though the bit about the Pakistani with a Thai nationality, A. how such a person get a Thai citizenship and B. they still refer to him as a foreigner, other than than, this whole thing can be made into an very intriguing move.

This is turning into a very ' murky and dirty ' affair now.

However, with this being high profile and no doubt, the German Embassy will definitely be involved, as well as  Thailand's police pin up ' Big Joke ' at the forefront, I cannot see this one being swept under the carpet.

Big Joke has an image, (he believes) as a clean cop, he is keen to maintain this due to his political ambitions and Thailand cannot be seen to be the country where ' anything goes '  It isn't the Wild West and they must be seen to have some semblance of law and order.

It is sad for the children of the deceased and a terrible way to die.

Again, he seemed with the information coming to light to ' sail very close to the wind ' with some of his behaviour, associates and activities such as we are hearing about with  involvement with biker gangs, underage sex arrests etc

The freezing is the strange part of this story......Why the heck would anyone want to freeze a body?

Isn't that obvious ? The body will need to be disposed of, bit by bit, arrangements to be taken elsewhere etc. But in the meantime it will start to smell.

There has been other commentary that the freezer wasn't plugged in, its just a box that's big enough to store and transport a body, without raising suspicion

It would be much better than it decomposing and would give them time to dispose of it at a later stage.

Easy to cut up then. Maybe.

RIP Mr Hans-Peter Mack.  What is surprising in this case is the BIB apparently doing real police work. Amazing Thailand.

How do they know the killing was intentional ?

If it was an accident, wouldn't they just call the police and say there has been a terrible accident. Maybe there are obvious signs that it was murder, knife wounds, a murder weapon etc.
