Does life get boring if you give up things like chocolate, ice cream and alcohol?

Or can you live a plain life and be happy?

Me too. I stop drinking 3 weeks. No ice cream then I think whats left? Not much to have fun with. TV is boring. I read some books but a plain life is what monks do and they go off the rails even with training.

Everyone gets bored at some time or other, you just do something about it.

I just live my life on balanced basis as I get older you get to know your limitations.

I have 3 month check ups at the local hospital clinic to keep a eye on my health which is reassuring.

I don't like to get being overweight so I try keep to my height weight and still eat what I like now and again but less of it.

I drink beer in moderation every day because I like it and don't drink spirits.

I have my hobbies to and do some maintenance on our farmland and the house, so basically it's just a case of keeping yourself busy.

Easily & we do.

Then again wife & I enjoy our health to perform athletically in our hobbies

We started years ago to tighten & although we thought we were fine some tests in later years said more could be done. That is exactly what we did.

But truthfully it is not giving up it is realizing what works well for your body & once implemented the changes/rewards are so great you really miss nothing...long for nothing from the past

Agreed.

This is a game I used to play with my students- make a list of 3 things and choose the one that you could never live without. For example;

Cookies

Ice Cream

Cake

or

Pizza

Burgers

Pasta

Yes.

It's depends, many did and they ended up the healthiest corpses in the cemetery.

I agree. Sometimes my hand shakes so much I can hardly get a spoonful of soup from bowl to mouth. Something like this comes in handy:

I don’t do any of those things. Not that I cannot or refuse to do them ever. It’s just that they aren’t that important. You think life without them is “plain”?

I've given up alcohol entirely, have very little coffee and ice-cream.

OTOH, I have no intention of giving up golf and sex. IMO golf is better, less expensive and I can play for longer.

Do you mean you think golf is better than sex.

I know they are both about getting your balls out and into a hole! 555

You need to keep on working on yourself. This means you physically, mental and spiritual health as well as your relationships.
