What's the point of many many new threads?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

There was one member who started all the time new threads.

And now it seems we have another one.

What's the point?

Is there some competition of who starts the most threads?

Is there any money to make doing that?

Over the years I also have a lot of posts. Personally, I answer other people's questions or comment on funny threads, etc. Sometimes I ask a question. I think that is what many of us do.

And then there are these few members who post 10 times as much. Why?

He's trying to make poster of the year, not sure why, who cares

Might be related or not but the site is up for sale. When a company tries to sell they will try to paint as good a picture as possible e.g. growing numbers. Pageviews, posts...

I've also noticed these posters who are extraordinarily active and seem to post a lot of trivial stuff that gets a lot of engagement. That and the change in news content.

Now it could just as well be that these people love the reactions they receive. Some people get really sucked into social media. No way to tell.

For my taste too many threads about U.S. politics (isn't this forum about SE Asia?) and Thai politics (cannot vote here, cannot run for any office as a foreigner, so why not stick to the more important news?)... If I want to know about U.S. politics, I'll check out other websites, and I don't really need to know whether Pheu Thai and Move Forward had another meeting, Pita is depressed, or whether there are talks taking place with another party... It won't make a difference to me; just let me know once they got a new government established.

Threads 'run their course' always new input required to keep the forum fresh

As you are a regular  participant surprised you do not enjoy new topics and threads giving the opportunity to air your knowledge

Yeah, def sick of politics unless I have a decent joke to toss in. But this cohort has a lot of left-field knowledge about a lot of things. So to talk about The Kinks or IMAX movies is always entertaining.

That's not what catch-22 means. It might be considered irony, though.

Edit: Since you're "confused" about it @scottiejohn, I'll explain what a catch-22 is.

It's when you're unable to proceed with something due to conflicting rules. I.e. when you in order to get A need B, but before you can get B, you need C, which in turn requires an A. It's a loop where you can't proceed.

This thread is in no way, shape, or form an example of a catch-22. Glad I could clear that up for you.

Because I am interested in an answer to my question.

More traffic, the firsts answer, is definitely a possibility.

But sometimes there are stupid trends on the internet, which I don't know about. Like who posts the most boring posts or something like that. Win a million dollars or whatever.

I'll agree that there are far too many threads about a certain US politician, and not enough about a different US politician, which indicates a bias IMO.

However, I have no interest in what happens in insignificant countries, and have no desire to read about them, or the people that live in them. The US is the biggest influence on the human world, so will attract most interest, but it needs to be more balanced.

As for a certain country, there should be more threads but obviously that is a snake pit perhaps best avoided, which explains the almost total lack of replies to the very, very few threads started about it.

Here's a good catch 22

In order to get a bank account you need a non imm O, to get a non imm O you need a bank account, Thai logic

Hot take: If you don't like the topic offerings, put up something you do like and see if anyone bites.

I got the idea of saying hot take from reddit and this is my first time trying it out.

I got the idea of saying hot take from reddit and this is my first time trying it out.

I am not thinking about which 5 topics I will start today.

If something comes to my mind, and I think others may find it interesting, then I will post it. And if something else comes to my mind, then maybe I will also post it. Likely there will be a week or two between these events. But maybe it happens on the same day or after a month.

I don't do it to fill my daily quota. But that is what (I think) two users are doing here constantly.

Same. If I think of something chat-worthy and I remember it while I'm here, I'll toss it out there.

But stupid new topics are better than no new topics. And you def always want some stupid in the mix.

I don't worry that this forum will ever be too intellectual for my taste. ????

Thank you for validating my existence here.

It's good to be part of this entire stupid mix.

And, yes...dopamine.

And, also, bonding with others who are stupid, too, is important to me.

I did the same. But the Topics-section on the right of this page now shows sometimes 5 or more threads from those "special" member - even if we have them on the ignore list.

I think by now there are so many garbage threads that it is annoying.

Lots and lot of advertisement and now lots of garbage threads. What does that leave? 10% for reasonable members?

He?

I have at least 3 annoying users in mind.

But obviously they could all be the same person.

And if the person(s) are hired to create traffic (to better sell the site), then I guess they won't go on any holiday.

I've noticed recently an increase in totally juvenile (well actually akin to the thinking of a 5-year old kid), threads.  One-liner replies, troll comments etc that if anything would alienate a potential purchaser of this forum.

I've added 2 posters (or is it really just 1 person?) to my ignore list.

When I read some threads in the Pub forum, often most of the comments are blocked because the posters are on my ignore list.  I only add idiots to that list, not those with opposing views to mine.

Does this forum have a minimum member age policy? (18?). 'Cos I think quite a few recent members definitely don't meet that age threshold!

You are describing Bignok who was previously Sparktrader on here, same 5 year old type replies. Then there's Goat who was Hammer2021, i guess the list could go on.

They will most likely get bored after a few months and move on, or go back to school

Not a bad idea to have competition, previously the subjects couldn't be discussed

Certainly not by their mental age even if they meet it physically!
