Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra will be arrested as soon as he lands tomorrow, August 22, according to officials who say outstanding arrest warrants and the result of convictions during his exile will be executed when he steps foot in Thailand.

 

It’s the same day that a joint sitting of parliament will meet for the third time to elect a new Thai PM, led by the Pheu Thai  party, the party where Thaksin is seen as the ‘spiritual leader’.

 

Nation Thailand reports that there’s much speculation that officials from the Police and Corrections Department will be on hand to meet Thaksin’s private jet and will take him from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to the Supreme Court.

Odds on Thaksin not returning tomorrow and the reasons? Technical issue with plane? Weather? Air Traffic Control? Health?

None of those inconveniences. It will already have been agreed. 

 

No handcuffs.

No time spent in Police vehicle.

No time in cells. 
Fast-tracked through ‘court’ with immediate ‘transfer’ and off back home or already agreed location.

 

This lot are a law unto themselves. He will never see the inside of a squalid cell, unlike any foreigner that dares overstay their visa.

 

As if he's gonna spend a single night in an actual prison.

Why is he returning if he knows he is going straight to prison? He could be kept there for years.

And so it should, but lets just wait and see if he shows up this time, he may have an outstanding dental appointment.

A bit perplexing.  A high profile prisoner arriving at a domestic gate.

Military side of airport is secure and can be accessed from either DMK runway.

There are helicopters in a secured area.

What numbscull is putting this together.  Oh wait, now I understand Thai military cannot be involved in civilian affairs.

I have no doubt the police "Department of Legal Execution" will deal with him.

Good job there isn't an AND between 'exile' & 'will'.

The clowns running the country should join him if that’s the case then. Surely you can’t steal a country with a gun and get away with it…

There are reports that he will be taken to the Supreme Court, where I assume he will be granted bail, and released perhaps with some limitations.

 

Adjudication of his various sentences can come at a later date after he's held up his part of the deal.

 

A Royal Pardon would come later after the initial buzz has died down. His years in exile will be used to justify no jail time.

On FlightRadar 24, it landed and taxied to the end of the runway, stopped a few minutes, then two other private planes took off within minutes. Has Tony done a runner? 555ee
