Pattaya Speedboat Operators Engage in Wild Viral Brawl at Bali Hai Pier Arguing Over Tourists

Pattaya — Two groups of rival speedboat operators in Pattaya engaged in a widely filmed and shared viral fistfight over who would transport a group of tourists on Saturday evening, August 26th.

The fight broke out at 5 PM yesterday at Bali Hai Pier, panicking numerous tourists who were waiting to board a ride to Koh Larn.

 

The incident, which was captured in a 5-minute-long video clip, involved two groups of speedboat operators at the pier. The groups were heatedly arguing about who would get the money and rights from a group of unidentified tourists who wanted to travel to Koh Larn on speedboats, before they started throwing punches.

The article states that the tourists were "innocent tourists". 

 

But I have never met an innocent tourist. 

 

In Thailand, IMHO, all tourists I know are the culpable types.

Short memories. It wasn't that long ago there were no tourists. No income. Their businesses were boarded up and bars/restaurants empty. Thais were sleeping on the pavements. Long lines of people at Pattaya beach to receive handout meals and a bottle of water.

The article didn't say who won at the end. having said that, they should have a system in place to avoid a repeat of the mockery in front of the tourists, taxis and other services have have them, why not them?

Tourists arriving at Pattaya’s Bali Hai Pier at the weekend were greeted by the sight of rival speedboat operators punching each other. It’s not the first time. The Pattaya News reports that the extended brawl, which happened at around 5pm on Saturday, August 26, broke out over who was going to transport a group of tourists to Koh Larn.

 

Many tourists waiting to take a ferry to the island (probably a better idea) panicked at the fistfight taking place in front of them. The fight was (of course) filmed and the 5 minute saga has gone viral on social media.

 

It’s understood there were two groups of speedboat operators involved in the brawl at the pier. Both groups got into a heated dispute over who would get the money and the right to transport a group of tourists who had enquired about travelling to Koh Larn by speedboat.

Well as far I noticed the time is forgotten and no lessons learned, all is back to normal:

 

Bouncer outmannig the tourist again for a good beat up

Motorbike taxis in front of walking street punch a russian because he didn't accept the price and called a bolt motorbike in front of them

Jet ski rentals scam Indians again on daily base (Even Jacky the Lacky is back and has still the same haircut!!)

Bullets flying in walking street and on the beach day by day...

 

and much much more.

Pattaya was always the place for low life individuals and scums and it will always be...

Memories are short. A month after the tsunami I had to go to Phuket on business and phoned a hotel I found to make a booking. They sounded so dis-interested that I called again the next day to check they had my booking, and they didn't. Whoever I spoke to wasn't interested in having guests in his empty rooms, it seems.

But seriously, there is so much violence lurking just below the surface in Thailand. Fortunately for us, they just fight and injure and kill each other.

Not quite true though. Assuming by “they” you mean Thai people. I quite frequently read about foreigners, tourists and expats, being injured, raped or killed. Not everyday, but more frequently than I would like.

I think you miss my point. Hotels were desperate for business, along with restaurants etc., yet they were too disinterested to accept my booking. A hotel that pretends to accept a booking but ignores it? Yes, that's appalling customer service at any time, and even more so when they needed every baht they could get.

And of course I know about the destruction. I went there a month after the tsunami. You missed that point as well. Not a bad effort, that.
