Breaking News on "The Nation" FB page here on my computer in Siem Reap:

(from 8 years down to 1 year). Well done, Sir.

May be an image of 2 people and text that says "NATION THAILAND BREAKING SIHN King commutes Thaksin's jail sentence 01.09.2023 03.40 PM"

Does he have to provide reasons why he should get the royal clemency? Good behavior - fail. He is really sorry for his crimes - fail. He compensated the damaged parties - fail. He

  • I guess he's had enough of hospital food!

  • He will leave hospital for freedom in a wheelchair. The week after he will be secretly filmed playing badminton.

if you view it from a different perspective, the king reduced the sentence to 1 year.

does that imply that the king also believes thaksin is a guilty criminal?

"He'll be ........."etc etc etc".

All of these forecasts are probably from the people who said "There's no way that Thaksin will ever come back to Thailand unless he has a Royal Pardon first".

But the truth he of the matter is that he is here in Thailand (Unless it's a Doppelganger) - sorry to spoil your theories,

but that's all they are.

By the way, I'm neither a Thaksin or Government supporter, merely making a comment on the way this post is progressing.

sounds like the theories were correct, news article in the BP says he got a one year Royal Pardon, should be out any day now

And just how is he going to get around the 1 yr reduced sentence, in hospital? He won't handle a year in the can! He's to rich to do real time! ????

does Thaskin have blood on his hands?

yes

According to news reports from reporters at the justice ministry, inmate Thaksin Shinawatra could request parole after serving one-third of his sentence. Since his sentence was reduced from 8 years to 1 year, he could apply for parole in 4 months from now.

So far, Thaksin has spent less than a day in a medical ward inside the Bangkok Remand Prison when he returned on August 22 before being transferred for treatment at the Police General Hospital on the night of his arrival. His time at the hospital is being counted as time served in jail.

According to regulations, Thaksin could serve his time at a hospital for up to 120 days if granted permission by Corrections Department director-general Aryut Sinthoppan.

Thaksin has been at the hospital for 10 days now, and if he desires to extend his stay beyond 120 days, he can seek permission from the justice minister. The anticipated new justice minister is Tawee Sodsong, who is also the new leader of the Prachachart Party, one of the parties in the Pheu Thai-led government.

As we cannot comment, all that can be said is, it was a reduction - not a pardon

A reduction, not a pardon - a completely different thing.

The news just revealed he has received a royal pardon and his sentence reduced to one year. Rejoice.

The Thai quotes about the pardon, being printed overseas, are that it is faster than 50G internet!

That is no surprise to anybody.he had a deal and waited. Now back in hospital not well.once the pardon is signed off,he will make a amazing recovery that no one can believe. No time in prison and he should be sent free because he behaved himself. What is the saying Amazing thailand or grease enough palms and we can help you

If someone was convicted on ''trumped up - political motivated'' charges, wouldn't they be fighting to clear their name, rather than crawling on the floor, asking for clemency?

Yes, if the judicial system through which they were fighting was independent, and not owned and controlled by the establishment, an establishment which has just demonstrated the regard in which it holds democracy, fairness and the rule of law.

Not a pardon....................a commutation I believe.

I wonder what the final act will be, they need something to distract everyone from all of this and move forward quickly.

But still 1 year in jail. Naah not goint to happen.

Stand by for another announcement to allow him home detention for the 1 year.

Or is there another trick to be revealed?

Moving forward is the last thing "they" want to do !

I wonder just how many weeks Thaksin spends in a jail cell, versus

some more comfortable surroundings?  My guess is not many.

Nothing wrong with me at all. I lived in the North of Thailand throughout the entirety of his tenure as PM and I witnessed all the good he did for the Thai people especially across the North.

With respect, were you living in Thailand throughout his tenure as PM or have you just jumped on the "anti" bandwagon?

Yes I ve been living since 2003 in Thailand. Thaksin gave with his left hand to the people and took at the same time the double with his right hand from them.
