Two People Die in Pattaya Car Crash After Trying to Avoid Street Dog

A pickup truck crashed into a power pole in Pattaya after swerving to avoid a stray dog that ran in front of it. The crash killed two people instantly.

 

The tragic accident occurred on Thursday, August 31st, on Huay Yai Road in the Huay Yai area of Banglamung District, Chonburi Province. Police, The Pattaya News, and a rescue unit rushed to the scene after being alerted to the mishap at 03:30 AM.

 

They found a bronze Isuzu D-Max pickup truck had crashed into a local convenience store by the roadside. The store and the car were significantly damaged and were surrounded by merchandise and car parts.

Tragic, plus a lot of damage. It may be instinctive to avoid dogs in the road but as driving a pick-up it would have been safe and sensible to proceed on original course.

At 3:30am its quite likely the driver was drunk and over-reacted to the dog in the road.

Speed was also certainly involved (there's also a video doing the rounds on Thai social medial which shows the incident).

Yet more evidence that Thais view dogs' lives as more important than humans'.  All stray dogs should be humanely removed.  Lots of people wander about still masked up yet see nothing wrong with piles of dog dirt on EVERY soi; gallons of dog urine deposited every minute.  This country is sixty years behind civilised countries in this respect.

Huay Yai road that time in the morning has almost no traffic, it's a beautifully paved wide road,  and I can see how it would be easy to have a lead foot, especially if you've had a few.

 

It wasn't far from there I personally witnessed a man die on a motorbike trying to avoid a soi dog he had frightened. What more can we say that hasn't already been said too many times? Until someone of great importance is personally affected by these beasts, they will remain higher on the food chain than any of us.

Insane speed in town and the street dogs are to blame, or brake failure, or wet streets and and..... but never the driver.....this is Thai style! The driver is dead and can no longer be held accountable for the shopkeeper's murder

The dogs name was lucky... I converted those letters numerically into lottery numbers.

The driver swerved to try to avoid the dogs, causing the truck to hit the store where the unfortunate worker was sitting.

 

I doubt he was wearing a seatbelt.

Indeed, entering rainy season now, and just like last year, we'll see the Thais wading through flooded Bangkok side roads with filthy water splashing on to their precious covid forever masks. ???? Meanwhile trash flowing into the street as bins fall over with the water, rats swimming for higher ground, and stray dogs ready to go for the next motorbike isn't an issue. Just have to laugh at the insanity of it all.

The street dogs are a problem, they are a real danger, just today I seen three stray dogs chasing the lazada guy who nearly came off his bike. No one is saying the driver isn't at fault too, but some real action needs to be taken with the stray dogs.

Sad. But if you drive fast down these sois there are lots of dogs. You need to be careful. Both for your sake and for the dogs. I see so many dogs killed on the roads and it's horrible.

A seat belt wouldn't have helped the driver killed by the pickup hitting the pole sideways at the drivers door.
