The funny part no one is mentioning here us that this attention seeking clown is American. He may actually get off lightly in Thailand, but when he is back in US he will receive Epstein treatment.

So what, King Charles III wife was 16 when they met, so was my UK wife.....

You should research again what pedophile means. Just a hint: It doesn't mean what you think it means.

  • The question is how old is the teacher.. On the picture he doesn't seems so old, so it could be a normal situation, although it is not good to have a relation with a student. But look at president Mac

She was of legal age of consent.  His only crime was not getting her parents' permission.  I'm not sure that's even a crime in the USA.

I just hope they don't find out he votes Republican (if, in fact he does)...  They'll throw away the key.

Time to brush up on US laws. I am sure it is the same for Brits, Aussies, etc....

"Federal law prohibits an American citizen or resident to travel to a foreign country with intent to engage in any form of sexual conduct with a minor (defined as persons under 18 years of age). It is also illegal to help organize or assist another person to travel for these purposes."

Conclusion, it is not the money or the desire to teach subjects to the students for Male teachers, it is the sex.

Gosh - not much of a wide ranging generalisation there then!

Good luck proving he traveled with intent.  Sounds like he traveled with the intent of working as a teacher.

In Most civilian countries, you can be punished for crimes done abroad. Buy sex is illegal in Norway, but selling is allowed, meaning you could be prosecuted for buying sex abroad.

For sure will be prosecuted if evidence someone had sex with minors!

You are the one who drew the conclusion.

It says he was wanted for  "taking a minor who is over 15 years old but not exceeding 18 years old away from their parents, guardian, or caretaker without reasonable cause, willingly and intentionally."

The article head line maybe wrong.  Why he was arrested may not be for statutory rape  YET.. The age of consent in Thailand is 15. HOWEVER, he is an authority as a teacher and the age of consent in that case is 18.

ALSO! the age of consent is 18 in the USA and I have heard the USA may have some policy in place with many countries to allow the arrest of US citizens who travel for sex with under age women.

Before the discussion ensues I think it would be prudent to figure out just what is going on. This article has some contradictory information.

Nope, not necessarily. He may be viewed as and authority as a teacher and in that case the age of consent is 18 in Thailand. It also states he was wanted for taking her away from her parents which is illegal since she is under 18.

He is a language school teacher, an occupation much less regulated than a classroom English teacher in a conventional school.

Of course, as a "Tic Toccist" (or whatever the correct term is) with a large following he may well have believed that the rules did not apply to him.

Either way, filming her and putting her on Tic Toc was an epic example of supreme plonkerdom!

I see a bit of wiggle room in that law.

'intent' being the wiggle word!

At least here they write "16-year old student", not "16-year old child" like they do in the paedohysteric West.

Interesting comment.

Let's analyze this a bit more deeply.

Oh yes.... the good ole USA will just let this slide.

Because it is a well known fact that they don't like prosecuting their own citizens for such offences overseas and making example of anyone. I am sure they are completely ignoring this arrest.

Agree.  The Thai authorities can easily contact US authorities and the dude is toast.

[Under the Prosecutorial Remedies and Other Tools to End the Exploitation of Children Today Act of 2003 (PROTECT Act), it is a crime, prosecutable in the United States, for a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to engage in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign country with a person under the age of 18, whether or not the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident intended to engage in such illicit sexual conduct prior to going abroad.]

Once again, it's illegal to engage in illicit sexual conduct.  If she's of legal age, is it illicit?

Seems like he was banged up for "taking a minor who is over 15 years old but not exceeding 18 years old away from their parents, guardian, or caretaker without reasonable cause, willingly and intentionally."

Don't get me wrong, I think the guy's an idiot, and wouldn't have objected to the family taking him out back and dispensing some justice.  But whether he'll be prosecuted "back home" isn't so sure.  Unless Thailand actually charges him with a sex crime.

Thai police arrested a renowned American TikToker and English language teacher in Bangkok for sexually assaulting a 16 year old Thai girl who is a student of his.

A Thai woman complained at Khlongtan Police Station that her 16 year old daughter engaged in a sexual relationship with her American teacher, Luke Nathanael Rockwell, after meeting each other five months ago.

The mother also added that the teacher recorded a video of him having sex with her daughter. She added that she is worried the teacher might share the video on social media.

Officers managed to arrest the American suspect on Sukhumvit Road in the Wattana district of Bangkok at 11am yesterday.

According to the article, the charge was:  "taking a minor who is over 15 years old but not exceeding 18 years old away from their parents, guardian, or caretaker without reasonable cause, willingly and intentionally."

Sounds to me like sex wasn't even required to hit him with that charge.

Details matter...

So kidnapping AND having sex with a minor.

The good ole USA will go bananas with that one.

The desire to act out an understanding of a basic English word is strong in some folk, too.   What he was arrested for was not paedophilia.

And no, before the ignorant jump in, I am not condoning the teacher's actions in any way.

What's going to fry him is the video....

And I don't think it's kidnapping if she was a willing participant.  Even if her parents didn't consent.

Yes, time for you to brush up on the law Celsius...

"Intent" being the operative word in your quote.
