The recent appointment of Education Minister, Pol Gen Permpoon Chidchob, has been challenged by the Move Forward Party (MFP), following allegations of his involvement in aiding Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, the heir to the Red Bull fortune, to evade prosecution.

MFP MP Teerajchai Phunthumas voiced these concerns during a press briefing on Friday. He drew attention to the National Anti-Corruption Commission’s (NACC) decision to formally charge multiple individuals for their alleged role in mishandling the notorious hit-and-run case involving Vorayuth in 2012.

Pol Gen Permpoon, who at the time served as the assistant to the national police chief, Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang, is amongst those accused.

On the early morning of September 3, 2012, Vorayuth, then in his early 20s, collided his Ferrari with a motorcycle ridden by Pol Snr Sgt Maj Wichian Klanprasert in the Thong Lor neighbourhood. Rather than assisting the victim, Vorayuth sped away, dragging the victim’s body 200 metres from the incident site. He failed to report the incident and fled the country in 2017, after continuously ignoring summons to appear in court. Some charges have already reached their statute of limitations.

The last two education ministers had next to zero qualifications connected to education.

Let's be honest, you can't put someone in that position who might help improve the education sector.

People get uppity and feisty when they think too much with all that learnin'.

A clear example of putting the wrong people in the right place. And then the MOE wonders why Thailand is ranked so low in international assessments.

Background checks??? brown envelopes?? how is it possible that he could even be nominated for this position or as MP.. It is far worse than a few mediashares

Leave him alone.

He has already reformed Thai education with the 1 tablet for every student idea.

Hes a dynamo our Permpoon.

Off topic but about the same individual. k Chidchob showed what an absolute idiot he is on Friday when he publicly announced that teachers should ONLY put 20 baht in an envelope when attending weddings, funerals or house warmings instead of larger sums. He even went as far as to say they should just help with washing the dishes etc instead of the usual practice of donating larger sums of money.

He is corrupt, and that is the skill set needed to be 'a good person'. Someone very high up advised the Thai people to vote for the good people, so there you go.

You guessed correctly... it's all about connections and nothing to do with job experience

“The Royal Thai Police can send a notice to European police to apprehend Vorayuth using his biometrics to identify him, an order which can be made by the ruling government".

Or, more accurately, "The Royal Thai Police can send a request to European police to apprehend Vorayuth using his biometrics to identify him, an order which can be considered or ignored by the ruling government".

That came in faster than expected but his background with Newin and Saksayam as well as the reputation of his father Chai might come in handy in times of need ..........

New government same as the old government!

14 million voted for change and this is what they get, laughable if it wasn't so predictable and depressing....

Just wondering what loss has been incurred by forcing MF out of he picture. They have many well qualified / experienced people and big changes/improvements to education was a feature of their intended actions.

They won big at the balot box then age old Thai political games came roaring back.

The good news keeps on getting better and better. What a quality bunch we have in? Not so much of an improvement over the last decade of cabinets. Corrupt hustlers, scammers and hi-sos.

Education minister is a very lucrative position and he's obviously being rewarded for his honestly in performing his duties. Well done sir!

Thai minister praises North Korean education system

Thailand's education minister has praised North Korea's school system for its "discipline and patriotism," and asked the international pariah for help in creating a similar environment for the kingdom's students.

The remarks made last month came to light after a statement from a meeting between Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob and the North Korean ambassador was circulated among Thai media.

Permpoon praised North Korea's schooling system, saying Bangkok sought "educational support to discipline children with patriotism and respect for country leaders."

All went as planned, there is nothing happening here that wasn't planned from the beginning, everything comes right from the top.......there will be no change, there will be no MFP, the status quo is the way forward. As far as education? Well, as long as things stay the same, and the sheep are still sheep, then everything is good. Thailand is not going to change in our lifetimes, nothing short of a civil war is going make things change, and Thai's aren't as free willed as Myanmar people, at least they are fighting for their freedom and change.
