Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra to be eligible for parole next year

Former Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra will be eligible for parole in February next year, 2024. The ex-PM will not have to wear the Electronic Monitoring (EM) bracelet and will be able to express his views on Thai politics.

 

The Committee on Human Rights, Freedom and Consumer Protection of the Thai Senate invited the Department of Corrections and Police General Hospital to clarify the status of former PM Thaksin in a meeting yesterday, September 25.

 

The purpose of the meeting was to answer people’s suspicions about whether the care and rights provided to Thaksin were in accordance with the law.

 

The committee’s chairman, Somchai Sawaengkarn, told Channel 3 after the meeting that the Corrections Department and Police General Hospital had given a fairly clear explanation of the committee’s suspicions. However, he asked the authorities to discuss this with their commanders and to return to the meeting next month.

The meeting report stated that Thaksin was a sick prisoner and was first admitted to the Corrections Department Hospital on August 22 before being transferred to the Police General Hospital. The prison authorities and police officers monitored the 74 year old PM at the hospital at all times.

So the bloke who inherited shares in a defunct company ain't allowed into politics but yet another convicted jail bird is. That seems very, very Thai to me, how intelligent people put up with this is a mystery to me....

Well that seems pretty clear cut doesn't it!!!

 

Only the most blind and deluded can think his treatment is the same as other similar aged and sickly prisoners!

 

Never heard of a prisoner being air lifted to hospital hours after arriving

 

Never heard of a Thai prisoner getting around the clock care

 

Never heard of a Thai prisoner being moved to a luxury hospital wing

 

Never heard of a long prison sentence being commuted within hours of arrival before the convict has served any prison time

 

I bet these hypocrites struggle to lie straight in bed....

All of them.  Being eligible to apply for parole, as described in the OP is something, that is available to all prisoners.

We don't know, not having access to those who decide.

Apparently the Attorney General is musing slapping him with a lese majeste charge from a speech he made in Korea a few years back.

He's a bargaining chip whilst in the 'hospital'  

Could be used to extract more concessions from PT regarding constitutional reform.

Thaksin will be finished his sentence in December, however the release will not be specifically for him /s.  I suspect the list of those released from prison will include everyone that is 70 years of age with less than a year left in their sentence...  No favouritism, just coincidence....

The same way they they get on with everything else in life, like the floods...

paddle around up to their necks until it goes away.

Thaksins sentence was reduced from eight years to one year.. which apparently he was supposed to serve without parole.

Then he slipped overnight into a hospital suite with life threatening symptoms.

Now we hear he's going to be out early next year.

This was all pre-planned and the release of him will be drip-fed day by day to the population.

All a charade.
