Asean Now is supposed to be a forum where members can discuss issues, and help each other out with problems. This thread brings it down to the level of Farcebook, where most of the photos are of meals

  • Rustic pork stew, been cooking slowly since 11am. Pork butt, pearl onions, baby potatoes, green beans and carrots. Nice crusty loaf of sourdough and a green salad to go with it. Looks like lots of lef

  • Sorry fellas but all my pics will be nasty vegan fare. You know...fresh, plant-based, healthy grub. EW!!! ????Normally gf cooks at home, but we're in Chiang Mai for 2 weeks, so the dining out options

Wife out did herself, an excellent Beef Massaman 👍

Think she's trying to take away my reasons for heading O&A southward.  Add this to things not to order in restaurants, all things beef, Yank Brekkie, and any type of sandwich.

Chicken curry on a bed of brown rice made by Mrs MD.

Lovely.

I feel embarassed to admit, but the McDonald's in Thailand are far more fresh and tasty then those served in many western countries. Not to mention in the USA where the bread and service and quality was a disgrace, if compared to Thailand,

This being said, also embarassed to say Indian food in great in Thailand. Reasonably prices compared to similar quality in India.

Strangely, never managed to find a decent Chinese restaurant service the good old chicken shop sues, a decent egg fried rice, or the beef sauteed in oignons. Top level hotels did have but was not able to find a decently prices one.

The scam in restaurants in Thailand however is with the italian restaurants, that are far to expensive and overcharging the guilable et naive patrons.

Same with Burger King & KFC.

Something else I find strange, locals do a better job at western food also, than the expat managed restaurants, especially if the expat is cooking.  Italian & Brit food anyway, as don't do much of anything else, and actually rare to have Brit food, but couple places in Udon Thani were good.

Hi, where in Udon Thani is good for Brit food?

I've just got back from Haiti so a little tired of rice / spaghetti.

Thank you.

2 were very consistent, one closed now, this may be yet another reincarnation of Mali & Steve :cheesy:

@rickudon  can you verify, if run by Mali, or one they sold and still going as Steve's 🙄

MdDonald's is total garbage compared to Prime Burger.

Fine dining @ KFC ... Zinger & couple scoops from Swensen's

3 lite servings for some variety ... tasty stuff 😎

Don't think I bought pasta the last couple years, cutting them starchy carbs out.   And 49 vs 69 baht / 500gr bag 🤬 :cheesy:

Never cooked a meal in my life, but going to have a go at a poached egg tonight.

Hope it's ok - from yesterday evening. Planned was a Club-Sandwich, but we didn't find the matching toast. So it became "just a sandwich".

If you say so, McDs is always trash, but they are consistent everywhere, except India where they don't sell burgers. i avoid it like the plague.

Indian food is average at best and overpriced. Nobody has idli and sambar or gobi 65.

Chop Suey is an American/Chinese invention, They do not make it in China. You can get decent Chinese but it is closer to real Chinese. It is much better in Shanghai. Khaopad kai is available everywhere,

If you can't afford western restaurants, don't eat there, The local food will always be better than the local interpretation of foreign food.

Simple and easy. Mostly done in the oven. Italian marinaded chicken breasts, roasted potatoes and onions. A green salad that pickled onions, tomatoes and croutons can be added to.  A nice gravy as well.
