Pattaya — At 11:16 PM, on October 13th, 2023, Mr. Yutthapong Khunpini, a 35-year-old ride-hailing driver, picked up a 70-year-old Japanese passenger from a hotel in Pattaya City to the Pattaya City police station. However, the unidentified Japanese passenger refused to step out.

Yutthapong revealed that after he took the passenger to his destination, the Pattaya City police station, the passenger nonchalantly laid down in the back seat. The Japanese man then stubbornly refused to get out.

Pattaya police officers came to help and then convinced the passenger to step out of the car, however, he was stubborn still.

Hopefully a stern beating was administered.  The first stroke of the baton transcends all language barriers.  A trip to the dungeons on Soi 9 for a few hours of Pinochet therapy will straighten him out.

The passenger requested the police station.

This may reflect a cultural expectation by the Japanese elderly man based on his interaction with Japanese police.

Law enforcement officers in Japan have developed a  "harmonious relationship" with citizens that may not be reflected by Thai police with foreigners. "Japanese rarely act on feelings of hostility in public."

Just speculating, the subject perhaps the senior being alone in a foreign country may have had caused some perceived personal problem and sought out the police for help as he might in Japan to help him deal with the problem.

Laying down in the taxi may have been his expectation that the police (as in Japan?) would approach peacefully and respectfully draw him out psychologically to help him.

Nice way to treat a 70 year old.

He probably lost a million baht down the back seat and didn't have an honest taxi driver then the police showed up and his fears got worse ????

It's obvious, somebody nicked his pushbike.

Put Fido in the back seat with him and close the door.

Probably waiting for taxi to push the automatic open/close button for the door and decided to catch a snooze.

I have heard that in Japan after a night of drinking they sleep it off on a bench or somewhere before making it back home.

In Pattaya....NEVER!

Pattaya is part of the Bermuda triangle where taximeters all over the city refuse to work. (This phenomenon affects the police too.)
