Tracking the growing Shinawatra influence in new Thai government

Less than two months after taking power, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin appears to be overshadowed by the Shinawatra family, judging from the people around him.

 

A high proportion of his official and unofficial advisers, government appointees, and Cabinet colleagues are Shinawatra loyalists, friends, political allies, in-laws, or even family members.

 

Over the past month, PM Srettha has appointed 13 official advisers mostly linked to past governments led by Thaksin Shinawatra or his sister Yingluck.

 

Nine advisers were named on September 14: Kittiratt Na-Ranong, Tewan Liptapanlop, Pichai Chunhavajira, Supanit Chaiyawat, Pimol Srivikorn, Pichit Chuenban, Chonlatit Surasawadi, Chai Watcharong, and Surayut Thavikulwat.

 

Srettha appointed four more on October 4: Tongthong Chandransu, Paitoon Chutimakornkul, Arthit Suriyabhivadh, and Police General Chinnapat Sarasin.

Kittiratt, 65, served as deputy prime minister, finance minister, and economic czar in Yingluck’s government. Formerly a deputy Pheu Thai leader, Kittiratt has now been hired to share his expertise as Srettha’s chief adviser.

 

Srettha had backed Kittiratt for the post of new Football Association of Thailand president but seemed to change his mind a few days before being voted in as prime minister, saying he “would be better suited to helping out the government with its work”.

The current PM is just the poodle to the fugitive it’s clear for all to see once the fugitive is released from his hospital bed he will make a miracle recovery within hours and will be controlling the government. These ministers must think the public are idiots to believe all this verbal diarrhoea they keep spewing out every single day . Come the next election there will only be one winner and it will be a landslide

yes, its obvious what is happening here........but we are not Thai, and we choose to live here or not...........for now at least we have that choice....

before we start criticising Thai politics, we should all take a long hard look at our own governments, especially UK and US

Anyone who lives in, or even visits, Thailand, is paying a lot in taxes to varying degrees, that funds this s**t show. We all have every right to criticize them.

Asians only ? Maybe the family clan structure is greater here but have you lately had a look at the US, Can, some EU countires , where clan structure is not so much defined by last names but by generations of party loyalists and old rope teams .................

Who do you think came up with he idea of the 10K Crypto Baht scam present, of hence clearing the way for the new "foreign income taxing system" that will neccessarily have loads of loopholes for certain people and "situations" and do we all remember the type of press freedom this "democratically minded saviour of the peoples will" had in mind , he who basically owned and controlled the media byuing independant news channels (promising 1 thing, keeping another) and owning satelites , his little "stop signs" when a question was unpleasant , some dealings with Temasec , his monopolies on mobile phones for many years that kept prices beyond anything elsewhere until, if I remeber correctly Ericson put a stop to it, etc etc p.p........... Sadly the public do appear to be idiots, as they continually allow this manipulation to happen. The puppet masters do this blatantly as they know the puppets will dance to their tune. Very sad.

The issue is that they can't corrupt the senate more than the military and elites have.  

 

Thaksin is in power but barely and he knows it.  The elites can remove him at any time by simply pointing a finger at the BJT, PPRP and UTN

 

This is probably the least power that he has had since he started all his parties.

 

Anyone who has been here for more than a year knows that no matter who the PM is the leader of Thailand when PT is in power is Thaksin.

The only reason that PT is in power is that the military had no other choice.  The people turned against them and voted for the MFP.

 

The challenge the military had to figure out was how to get back the power which they did with this new government.  Thaksin may be the head of the government but even with all his advisors unless they can outspend the Elite they will have to dance to the military puppet.

 

BTW the military is going to do everything it can to discredit the MFP and PT and once they thinkthey can win again they will end the PT reign and call for a new election.

Please enlighten us on the LOT OF taxes that a visitor pays.

 

Let's hope you don't have in mind the VAT on goods, which you have to pay in about every country in the world, and is in Thailand at 7% about a third of what it is in most other countries.

 

So your statement actually should have been, anyone who lives or visits SAVES a lot of taxes

The catch is that the people in power are the minority in this case.  The people in power are not the PT or shin family.

Plane tickets, taxis, fuel, hotels, food, drinks... anything where payments are mad.

 

VAT and income / profit tax from the business all find their way to the establishment.

 

The moment you spend money in a country, part of that ends up in the government. 

 

If you don't understand that, you're just not intelligent or experienced enough to have any discussion with.
