By that I meant if the US promised to come to the aid of Taiwan, and then did not, How would NATO countries feel about the promise the US made to come to their aid? Might they start having doubts?

An aggressor coming to the aid of a province of another country. How would the US govt react if say Alaska wants to secede and China promises to come to the aid of Alaska? In any case, China is a non-interventionist country so the above scenario would never occur.

America will lose.  They have limited money; whereas, China has infinite time.  They will just sit there eating frogs and then when the US are on their last drop of oil they will start fighting.

  • We are all doomed.   Seriously, why worry? What can you do? How do you prepare for something like that? I don't fancy investing in a fallout shelter (and will probably arrive faulty from Laz

Interesting talk concerning the OP subject

Just an observation , I am not making any value judgments.

But isn't funny that the Chinese people say  the same, only they replace the " Xi" to corporate

Perhaps I was just fortunate but I've never been employed by a
"corporate" and if I had been I'd be ashamed that I had been.

Whatever the failings of the military and nursing, neither was ruled by the god of profit.

I'd have to agree with the Chinese on that one.

Individually , for many might have little affect, though I doubt it.

It would certainly change the lifestyle we are used to, and I don't care how old one is, when the time to check out there are very few of us who don't wish for one more day.

China's agenda for a new world order.

Democracy and your personal freedom is optional.

China has a sweeping vision to reshape the world — and countries are listening

Democracy and personal freedom is irrelevant when one is trying to make a living. At least, under China’s leadership, the world will see a huge reduction in the countless wars and conflicts of the past 70 years as China does not seek hegemony.

I lost count of the number of times the article used the words authoritarian and repressive. Strange that the majority of the 1.4 billion Chinese don’t feel the same…

Freedom and democracy? Where?

The Us is only interested in a democracy that chooses its agenda, Any democracy that rejects ..........

It reminds me of the line attributed to henry Ford. "You can have any color Model T , as long as it is black"

The freedom to post what you just posted.

You couldn't say that about the PRC is they have their way.

Absolutely right. What does any of us know independently? I take anything I see in the news with a grain of salt. Its not like they never lied to me before.

Freedom to post whatever I want? and free to be exploited by corporate America. A hell of a choice if you ask me.

No. Some of us have actually been to China. Even worked there. Plenty of Chinese staying out of the country saying the same.

If you want to claim citizens (or visitors) to China can say whatever they like in public, with no fear of unpleasant consequences - that's totally up to you. Quite telling you do not actually disprove my comment, but employ a lame distraction.

Guess you've never been anywhere, never seen anything, never experienced much and never talk to other people. But I don't really think that's true - so probably more of nonsense claim to bolster a silly position.

Considering your many opinionated comments on things that you see on the news (and do not have direct experience with) I call  BS on your self pat on the back.

You just used your freedom again, right there - to rile against what you see as wrong, to point it out, in public, without fear something bad will happen to you - you take this for granted, that's the point.

Can't see it happening, China makes everything and America is it's biggest customer.

Would a manufacturer really go to war with it's customer (and vice versa)?

There are existential Chines concerns that though it might not want to go to war , it might not have a choice.

Much in a way of the conflict between Russia and the Ukraine, (I know I know, many of you disagree)

Ot Japan attacking the US at Pearl harbor , . The Japanese being 2/5th the size of the US knew well enough that they had a vary little chance of prevailing but , b ut the cut off of iron and petroleum to it   left no choice other than becoming a vassal state  .

Much in the same way the Chine's might not have a choice.

A red line would be Taiwan declaring independence. (They still have not), ans as with Japan  having independent access to resources .

Taiwan is unlikely to declare independence anytime soon, if ever. But if they did and China invades, what business is it of the US to intervene, other than for their own self interest?

Israel invades Gaza, I don’t see the U.S. or any other country for that matter, intervening militarily.

A war in Asia between China and America can have only one victor. Similarly, a war between these two in America will only have one victor, which is why China will never attack America militarily.

I agree about the independence thing , I don't think they would, but China has drawn a red line on that , and who knows, Mayde , if a war is inevitable, the best time to have it is now, and not when China gets militarily stronger.

The US is intervening militarily, what do you think the US send two aircraft carriers there for?

It has been reported that the US has shut down missiles aimed for Israel. I would call that  intervening.

And how US Awacs , do you think they are collecting intelligence and running , interference?

China does not have bases 100km from the coast of the US, but the US has bases 100 km from the coast of China. Don't you think China finds this troubling. And everyone talks about trade with the US, Only 16 % of Chinas exports come to the US. Significant but if interrupted not existential. And even if there was a cold war with the US, don't you think some of that 16% of chinese trade will make it to the US via intermediaries?

IMO the next 5 years will be very dangerous.

By the way why the Creation of the BRICS countries block?

but nobody here seems to be talking about this and I wonder if many people are even aware of the issue .

I don't agree that lots of people / agencies etc., are talking about it. I suspect your brian is working overtime.

Both the USA and China are very wary of a physical war.

Both countries,  specially the USA have had too many very baD experiences in this field, and involving much death and destruction.

Joe Biden has made it very clear he does not wish to start a war or closely involve us troops in physical war.

China is the same, it has no desire whatever to get involved in any type of war and China has no real experience of physical war for centuries.

Many Americans would be shocked to learn that Chinese soldiers serve a multi purpose and are rarely seen in uniform in public and they don't carry weapons.

But i'm well aware that many US Americans love the idea of getting into a war. They need to do  lot better / deeper analysis on this subject.

Trump is of course is a loose cannon on this point, and he's made many statements claiming that US soldiers are losers etc. Strange man.

They are not. Mostly because it is NOT an issue. Of the foreign affairs experts I follow exactly NONE are predicting this. But there are many out there that post scary stuff for clicks n cash and I think you may have fallen for the outrage clickbait.

Think of it as cold War II with a much more stable and predictable adversary. Nothing to see here.

Some experts in international relations have warned that China’s rise poses a particular risk because it might surpass the United States, and that such hegemonic transitions often lead to war (an idea known as power transition theory).
