BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

So, my cat saga continues !!

At the beginning of May a stray cat ( who used to visit us and we would feed, so I take the blame !) gave birth to 4 kittens which took to climbing into the underneath of the car and would only come out with the mother’s call .

Our daily routine was to encourage them out of the car by calling the mother ( with a cat audio sound on my phone ), who, feeling threatened would call the kittens out and take them to safety.

This didn’t always work out and we realised that if they stayed inside we could drive locally and they would stay tucked inside .

Until one decided to descend while reversing out of the garden and I ran over it (😞), felt terrible.

Tried cat repellent, moth balls and mosquito spray but after the initial strong smell disappears they return and climb inside.

Yesterday was a typical day, we coaxed 2 out but no sign of the 3rd, after an hour trying, the mother more concerned with protecting the 2 rather than finding the missing 3rd stayed away.

Having to travel to a family funeral today some 210 km’s away we were determined to remove number 3 despite not seeing or hearing it and not 100% sure it was still in the car’s underbody.

Then Mrs D had a good idea💡 and we visited the local Be-Quik, put the car up on the ramp and 5 or 6 employees started looking for the missing kitten in the front and back underneath trays. After 10 minutes or so we determined there was nothing there so set off.

Yesterday afternoon I looked at my house cctv camera and saw only 2 kittens and the mother sat in the car port as if waiting our arrival.

So, here I am at 5.00 am on a Sunday with a funeral shortly trying to coax a distressed kitten from out of the rear underneath tray of the car before one of the mil’s 4 dogs has it for breakfast . !!

An hour coaxing, an inspection by several Be-Quik employees, a 210 km highway drive, a 20 km round trip during a thunderstorm and a night surrounded by 4 hungry dogs and now it makes its presence known !!

More to follow !

I just had my car back from being wrapped, he's done an excellent job.  A cautionary note, when he was wrapping the back bumper, it removed some paint from the bumper, a piece fell off, fortunately it

I am a big fan of Total tools for the home and garden as they all use the same batteries.

I use the leaf blower to move our pack of dogs when needed

I also use their tire inflator as there is no plugging in required

Does the range include that vital on-site accessory, a coffee machine??

Or for us Brits, a kettle?

No to the coffee machine and the kettle, but you probably knew that already 😉

The nice thing about a BYD is that is that you can plug in a regular kettle or coffee machine into the car, it doesn’t need to be battery powered.

I have the combi leaf blower and grass trimmer set. Problem is that the battery runs out very fast with the leaf blower. I need to find somewhere to buy a 40 volt battery.

Unfortunately, we have more than our fair share of "tools" here from the anti-EV brigade.

Think they are all 20V so they are compatible just with more Ah

Cat saga ( part 2 )

So, after discovering the kitten was still inside the car ( much to our surprise ) we attempted to coax him out to no avail, 4 large salivating dogs were not helping !!

Tried some cat treats which weren’t a success although those sneaky farkin dogs liked them !

Time was limited as the family funeral was imminent ( although it was more of a 7 day remembrance service as there was no body, donated for medical science ) so we just had to hope that he could hang on until we got back home.

Just arrived home an hour ago and the mother was waiting, a few meows from her and the invisible kitten appeared from the bowels of my Seal.

Apologies for the p1ss poor photo, didn’t want to get too close:

No apparent ill effects after 30 hours tucked up inside and close to 40°c today .

Just to inform you that kittens ( possibly puppies, snakes and rats etc also ) like the tardis like interior of the Seal and take some persuading to leave !!

The moral of the story:

If cats had the necessary ability to buy a car they would also choose the BYD Seal.

It's the BYD app servers regardless of owning a Seal, Atto, Dolphin, etc.    I got the same notice this morning...I own an Atto.

It is true, stuff like this happens always in the most inopportune moments:

Very useful to know this, seems like it is something to do with leaving the car with an open door or trunk for a period of time sends it into sleep mode.

Seen a few cases on FB and the solution seems to be, as in the video, by pressing the door handle button.

Incidently, i have had the steering wheel message a couple of times, turning it fully to the left and right clears it.

I thought it might have been something to do with leaning heavily on the steering wheel when entering and needed re-zeroing but apparently not, found this:

That's kind of classic for Chinese produced stuff in recent years, if it is connected to the internet or IOT etc, they have dozens of brands, sometimes a few, but they all work on the same software framework as well they produce in the same areas.

The rear view mirror was one of my early gripes - why not a frame-less mirror?

Well - turns out, they are all frame-less, just takes a small tug and a twist....... looks so much better!

I spoke with the BYD salesman about my 30,000 baht charging credit, he told me I would get it within 60 days of my friend taking delivery of his Seal which would ne next week.  He now says it's within 60 days of him getting his white plates.  Rever continue to disappoint me.

We discussed the BYD enquiry at the Office of the Consumer Protection Board over BYD's pricing and I said I might complain too to which he said BYD will definitely know if you do, so I did yesterday over the lack of increase on 1/1/2024 followed by discount for January 2024 deliveries.

I also had a line conversation with MG BKK HQ yesterday asking for my colour and spec choice for my Cyberster.  After a lot of going back and forth explaining what price protection is, I told them I want 12 months price protection in writing or they can stick their Cyberster where the sun doesn't shine (a convertible won't be useful there).  The numpty on the phone knew nothing about my dealer supposedly having done that.

keep in mind that car sellers aren't always the most trustworthy people, whether in thailand or your home country ...

but i am sure, you know that already ...

I sold a Toyota Camry I used to commute to Bangkok weekly from Pattaya with over 100,000km on it.  I saw it in Pattaya later with under 30,000km on it.

It went from me to tent to new owner and I know I didn't clock it!

Went with my Seal for the first 3 month/5.000 km inspection today, as expected all is fine and no problems. What surprises me is the scheduling of the next 1 year/20.000 km Inspection in April 2026!!, so exact two years after I have got the Car.On my request they told me this date is coming from the central Revers System and can't be changed by any Dealer. Does somebody else having the same experience?

What does it say on the service screen in your car?

I just checked my car, and the service interval is still set to 12 month or 5,000km (total of 10,000) which is coming up fast. I will check with the dealer to be sure what is actually correct.

The 5.000 km check is after 3 month not 12 month. Attached the official BYD Maintenance Schedule for Dolphin,Atto and Seal, first service after 3 month/5.000 km, next one after 12 month/20.000 km and so on. For my understanding the next Service to be done 12 month after you have got the Car.

That was not my question..........  you know that modern cars have service reminders in the OBC?

That is what I was referring to - and by extension, whether BYD would via OTA change the service minder to a different interval - but never mind, you answered my question.

The Service reminder is switched off in my Car, so no help at all.

On the Atto 3 the maintenance reminder menu/screen can be set/changed by the dealership or the owner.   The owner just goes into the Infotainment maintenance/service reminder area and enters a date and/or kilometers till the next service.   It's just a reminder just like setting a calendar reminder on your smartphone, computer, etc.....change it, turn it on, turn it off, etc.

Seal tire repair.

Living in Thailand this is the sort of the job I will never do myself ever again.
