Thepprasit Road Nightmare

Featured Replies

I think City Hall are determined to make Thepprasit Road into a pedestrian area. Yesterday afternoon they turned on the traffic lights half way down, opposite the Honda dealership. It totally brought the traffic to a halt coming from Sukumvit Road. Took me over 30 minutes at a crawl. Plus you have cars queueing up to u-turn at the few very small gaps in the central reservation. Cars double parked because the drivers can't be arsed to walk 5 yards. I am surprised any traffic actually moves !

A problem in a lot of places.... never a ticket issued and yet another 7-11 with insufficient parking will get built soon!

Driving etiquette and respect for traffic laws in Thailand has to the worst in the world. Either ignorance or just plain stupidity

Probably a good dose of both.

And unfortunately I judge people in the way that they drive.

Yeah, they've really made a mess of the road. It was once by far the fastest way to get from Suk to the sea, without a single traffic light along its entire length. It was dodgy if you didn't know where vehicles were most likely to turn right, but for the locals (like myself, lived on Soi 8 for over 12 years) it was a really efficient and effective way of getting places. It's become a bad joke now, much slower than it was before and no safer, yet not carrying any more traffic. Congratulations to Pattaya City Hall for making a complete pigs ear of one of the best roads in the city. And now they'll press on to make a mess of Soi Buakhao.

I noticed that yesterday at the Thepprasit lights, seemed City Hall were watching the flow, or lack of, big queue when I came from Sukhumvit, I reckon they'll turn them back off.

If only Thais could use roundabouts things would flow much better

I wouldn't be so harsh.

I give Thais lot of respect they stay friendly, cool and give others room in any situation.

I've seen lot of road rage in many countries for less jam. Thais don't even honk!

The stupidity comes from poor traffic planing and so often missing lights. They are not ON.

You don’t belong in Thailand. I am sure the roads in your country are fantastic.? But then, if new infrastructure was built here to your standards, prices will have to increase which will give you another reason to call Thai people stupid.

That's because they don't want to get shot or hacked up with a machete, not because they're polite and considerate.

Lights are off this morning, I'm wondering if they'll get put back on later in the day or their permanently off

When I go out every morning for my bike ride I am getting cars and motorbikes coming out in front of me all the time, and motorbikes always on the wrong side of the road. These are the halfwits that cause me to keep saying that most Thai people are stupid, then the deluded posters start plastering me with their saddo emoticans.

First they remade the road (took 2 years of chaos) and that speeded up the traffic pace so much that crossing the Theprasit can be a life-changing moment. .And now they try to slow it down which affects the whole blood system of traffic in Pattaya south. What they really need  is more overpassing bridges for pedestrians especially in front of the big market places.(Night market, second hand market and the big veggie and wetmarket)It would benefit even the trafficjam situation together with limited stopping/parking rules/fines on Theprasit road. They also need to make a deep professional all over analysis of the whole traffic health in Pattaya. Earlier I heard ideas about making skytrains connecting east and west Pattaya and fly bridges for tourist coaches from Sukhumvit to Bali Hi.Maybe still in pipeline?

Infrastructure??? Denial/delusion. This is not about infrastructure.
