Do we have any idea where the guy is from?

What I mean is, is he a white skinned 'euro type' foreigner or from some local country.

And why does that matter ?

Perhaps to you they do. Is it possible  that it might have something to do with you rather than them?

20 years in Thailand and I never , not one, nada problem.

Why is that?

Until last month I'd have agreed with you.

Then a Thai university lecturer attempted to murder me with his car.

The ugly truth is there's enough Thai guys out there with little or no self control to endanger the lives of any foreigners entering Thailand. Obviously they're also a big danger to all Thai citizens.

I am sorry Bobsmith, I am sure you are a nice guy, at least no less so than the next guy.

And I don't take pleasure sounding disrespectful,

It just irks me when people talk about thais in such unfair manner.

dude... did i miss something. i know you had a bad accident and i expressed my empathies... was it an accident or a deliberate attempt on your life? i once had an incident with a thai and the brown pigs covered his ass

Our presence here is tolerated by most is my guess.

It seems that after being told to keep their heads bowed for so many generations, that when an opportunity to assert themselves arises, for right or wrong, some tend to over compensate, or start blasting.

Thai people are no more racist than most people in the world.

That's not to say that some of them are not, just no more than some other nationalities.

A drunk person, doing drunk things. What a surprises.

No drunk person does anything like that in the West??

Google it,.You would be reading about incidence like that all day.

Agreed. For every incident like this there are innumerable good deeds. Have personally had too many to mention over the years from the most unlikely of people, along with many genuine Thai male friends. If I had the kind of contempt and disregard for the Thai populace that some do here I would not live in Thailand. Don’t equate what you see in wherever you might be living (Pattaya probably or places in Isaan lol) as indicative of the rest of the country.

You are the one who said

"Their hatred for foreigners is profound.

It seeps through every pour in their skin, and comes out of their mouths when they've had too much to drink..

Thais are racist to the core!"

Buddy.

I assume you don't get that impression from this one incident. Because if you did it would be simply sad.

It happens everywhere in the world. I can produce for you hundreds , of articles of such incidents happening in the US. This is not a Thai problem, it is a human problem, and I got news for you,

buddy, Thais are human.

I see the wood.

and judging from your reply. it is between your ears

I know that some Thais are racist, Anutin seems to be a perfect example. But the vast majority are just getting on with their lives and probably give it no thought.

Personally, I have only had one racially charged interaction. That is one in forty years here. Perhaps Bob needs to do a bit of introspection. Why do certain Westerners seem to be the center of racist issues? Perhaps it's not even racist. People tend to dislike self entitled aholes and treat them accordingly. NB.Not saying that this is the case in this instance though.

You do know this is a forum about Thailand, don't you. As far as I've read, no-one has said this only happens in Thailand.

What a disgrace.

Obviously also police officers are allowed to get drunk in public. But do you have to behave like a small-town thug?

Because of the badge he is a fully fledged thug.  Not many join the force for altruistic reasons. Most have a bully mentality and the badge just gives them the license to practice their most base instincts without retribution. Police are the same the world over. Paid-up bullies. Why is the institution called "The Force" very few understand protect and serve. They are police for very different reasons.

And the followup story to this incident is that the drunk cop and his rant came to the attention of Deputy PM Anutin, who immediately appointed the cop as head of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

If there was ever any doubt that local men are xenophobic wimps, this fool more than confirms it.

One drunk entitled fool shouldn't have us paint everybody with the same brush. I have never had any problems with Thai people and the police in Isaan are generally laid back and friendly.

Probably Lao or Burmese, just put in foreigner to rally up the old westerners that are desperate to see some farang hate to reinforce their bigotry.

I left a restaurant in Pattaya part way through a meal because they allowed a regular customer to smoke.

I complained and the owner said it's ok because we have an entertainment licence (which is BS), they got a terrible review from me on TripAdvisor and I never went back.

His police statement says 'he was angry and wanted to teach me a lesson' so attempted murder.

From the full story, the foreigner was almost certainly a white western guy.

Thai bashers, go easy please.

I reckon we've all embarrassed ourselves once or twice while being drunk.

1. Many Thai men are jealous of foreigners. They assume we have more money and they know we get the hotter gals.

2. He does not have to be concerned about his behavior. He is above the law. YIf arrested for any offense his defense would be:

Your honor, I am RTP. You and I both know I am above the law, and protected at every level. They even told us that in the academy. That is all the evidence I need. The person making the complaint is just a citizen. They don't count. You know that. I know that. The RTP are superior to citizens. We have the power and you are sworn to protect us. So, drop the charges and let me get on with my franchise.

I had a bad experience  in Korat when a bar a mate and I were at had a table of drunk Thais acting like dickheads. Maha Sarakaham  coppers have had  a bad reputation for a long time.

He'll have to wai himself in a mirror at his police station today then pay himself a 500 baht fine.

He'll take it from his trouser pocket and put it in his shirt pocket.  That'll teach him, and he'll think twice before trying it again.  :cheesy:

Thai guys know they are losers when seeing me/us, thats why they always have that evil look on their face. They are losers.
