legal or not. Any older person that wants to stick his w!llie in a minor should be locked up. Also men here that think they can have a normal relation with a girl thats 35 years younger..........

  • Is sex with a 17yo illegal in Germany? I think not!   Can you even extradite someone for this?

  • so let me get this straight. you want to lock someone up because of your own moral code ? regardless if they broke the law or not.    my goodness.   and to clarify i find it troubl

It didn't happen in Germany. But, from the linked article:
However, it is not clear if the German man can be charged or what the nature of the charges may be, given that the age of consent in Germany is 14 and prostitution, which is the context here, is legal.

Surely he should be charged with breaking Thai law. But again Germany, unlike many EU countries, the USA and Australia, appears to not care what laws a German breaks as long as it isn't in Germany. That's interesting, and maybe why the accused admitted his actions, knowing he would not be prosecuted back home

At the same time, some European and Scandinavian countries, unlike Germany, criminalise all sex tourism activities by their citizens abroad.

"......appears to not care what laws a German breaks as long as it isn't in Germany"

Putting aside the subject of this thread subject for a moment, the same is certainly true of Thailand in the case of Mr Thamannat........4 years time in Australia for drugs but allowed to be a government minister:

"The court said it did not recognise Mr Thammanat's conviction because the verdict was delivered in Australia, a foreign country."

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-57001674

Thailand is a country mired in distortion, corruption and "immorality".........which is what gives an air of absurdity, as always, to the "outrage" surrounding the incident under discussion on this thread.

The German guy blabbed in a documentary and Thailand "loses face".......again.

That's why the fuss.

Meanwhile the roaring trade in teenage prostitution and the bribing of officials/collusion of them in the trade continues, and will continue, unabated and approved....."that's what they're like".

Agreed. But I didn't suggest that only Germany might be at fault in such cases.

Legal or not, he is old enough to know better and for that he needs a wake up slap .. which he is now very likely get.

17 ????  Shes not a child,  also she consented ?  If the guy was 20 years old,  would it still make the headlines???   OMG,  she's old enough to get married,  good on you mate,  you've done nothing wrong.

Foreign men will soon need to have proof of age before taking a hooker.....Pattaya has something like 25000 hookers, in a place where prostitution doesn't exist....unless of course the cops can make money!

If you ask if it is a ladyboy or lady you can ask how old she is. Unless you don't care about either

A 17 yr old can look like a 25 yr old here in Thailand.

This is arse about tit, normally Thais ( like a lot of asians ) look a lot younger than they actually are.

17 year old working in a Pattaya bar as a prostitute (that's your headline, albeit not shocking)

Fake Thai ID cards are readily available........seeing her ID will not stop it from happening unless you know how to spot a fake one? It's sometimes very difficult to guess with any accuracy a Thai persons age.....even someone who looks "young" can be late 20's.

That's called an ID card, you only have to ask to see them

Have you ever studied the photos on these ID cards. They resemble nothing like the actual individual. Very low quality photos

I believe if you own a bar  you need to check their are 21 before they work there.Otherwise the bar owner in trouble  also the customer. In pattaya that is hard to do as id,s and many are fake but this is thailand and trying to stop them is impossible

I think I read somewhere there is no extradition treaty between Germany and Thailand

From Google: Others, such as Germany and Israel, do not allow for extradition of their own citizens in their constitutions.

I think not!

Can you even extradite someone for this?

So you'd be willing to offer up your 17 year old daughter or granddaughter for the enjoyment of tourists? Or are you also a sex tourist/pedophiIe? Perhaps you married a 17 year old. OK, LEGAL age of consent is a grey area between cultures, but there is a higher moral perspective as to what defines a child vs an adult. I don't think most decent rational people consider 17, or even 18, to be a fully mature adult capable of making adult decisions at the level of a 25 - 45 year old. Then one has to ask, why would anyone lust after a young teenager when there are plenty of 21+ year old perfectly legal and equally beautiful available women? Something wrong with that picture. And yes, though there isn't a treaty with Germany, extradition is possible under a certain process between the two countries.

But we are in 2023 but in thai years it's year ????. So not as easy as you say.

pedophile

Just for the record, while I do not disagree with what you're trying to say, pedophile refers to sex with a prepubescent child.

How can a 17 year old work in a bar?

better arrest that bar owner!

errrr..........that would likely be one of the BIB. So it's a no.

17! year and consent. Ridiculous! Nothing to see here.

This hardly requires Big Joke personally going to Germany. Save the big guns for real abuse of minors, not this middle of the road stuff. This is just Thailand pretending to flex its muscles and get tough over things that don't really matter much.

Maybe I'm missing something, but that 'even if there is a Extradition Treaty' - why would they have one if it's unconstitutional?

For foreigners

Quite the opposite  Going after the end user, customer, is the easy, correct way to go.  End the demand, and theoretically, you'll end the supply.  Sadly, simply too many pervs out there, that want to have sex with children.

Don't knw about Germany, but it is illegal to travel internationally to have sex with minors.  If known, one would face arrest on return to USA.  I've even send news-blips of Yanks arrest to FBI for their consideration.

This is not a child. Not one requiring the chief of police to jump on a plane and go overseas. Totally over the top. About what you'd expect from Thailand.

Nobody ever listens to me, what my daughter's do and with whom is entirely their own choice.

I think if it's legal then it's a matter of personal preference and good luck Not any of your business anyway. Why should you judge him?

Old enough to know better? Sure... but apparently also young enough not to care...

I totally agree. My daughter is 36 and divorced already. Bummer too. I really like her former husband. We were all young once. Let them have the freedom to do what they want. If you raise your kids right, you know they will use birth control!

It's very easy unless you're retarded.
