Following a spate of near misses, crashes and fatalities caused by marine safety issues around Phuket waters over the past month, the ‘United For Marine Safety’ event is being held tonight from 5pm at the White House in Boat Lagoon.

The event has been organised by local tour operator 5 Star Marine, together with other operators, the local Provincial Organisation and Phuket Governor’s office.

Anyone can attend.

Random drug tests would be appropriate. Also yearly boat inspections if used in tourism. 🙏

The next marine tragedy waiting to happen: Speed boats pulling parachutes operate dangerously close to swimmers near the shore at Karon Beach. Shouldn't these boats (i) operate at a safe distance from the shore - say 300 metres, (ii) be fitted with propeller guards and (iii) have at least two crew, one to look forward for swimmers and another to watch the parachute?  A swimmer snorkelling with his head underwater is at great risk.
