Former United States President Donald Trump has won the Iowa caucuses, cementing his Republican frontrunner status as he bids to retake the White House in 2024.

Trump earned the widely-expected victory over former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, taking him a step closer to securing a third consecutive nomination for the Republican Party, projections by multiple US media outlets showed on Monday.

Iowa tends to choose the guy who will not be the eventual GOP nominee.  Just sayin.....555

And the candidate of the ignoramuses triumphs again!

"Trump is winning by a wide margin with the two-thirds of caucusgoers who think Biden did not legitimately win the 2020 election, according to caucus entrance polls. Haley wins among the third of voters who think Biden’s victory was legitimate."

Trump Notches A Commanding Win In The Iowa Caucuses As Haley And DeSantis Fight For Second Place
By AP and published by Denver Post

Des Moines, Iowa – Donald Trump decisively won the Iowa caucuses on Monday (Jan. 15) with his closest rivals languishing far behind, a crucial victory that reinforces the former president’s grip on his party at the outset of the GOP’s 2024 nomination fight.

It was not immediately clear who would emerge as the second-place finisher, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis or former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. Caucus voters endured life-threatening cold and dangerous driving conditions to participate in meetings that unfolded in hundreds of schools, churches and community centres across the state.

The results are just the first in what will be a months-long effort for Trump to secure the GOP nomination a third consecutive time. But the victory sends an unmistakable message to the Republican Party and crystallises the challenge facing his GOP opponents.

Trump passes major US election test with easy win in Iowa

main-15-2-600x338.png

Donald Trump romped to a lightning-quick victory Monday in Iowa’s caucuses — the first vote in the US presidential race — cementing his status as the presumptive Republican standard-bearer to challenge President Joe Biden in November’s election.

The former president has led polling for more than a year, but the contest was seen as the clearest insight yet into whether he can convert his advantage into a stunning White House return.

Major US networks took just 30 minutes to project the winner, with Trump opening up an unprecedented 32-point lead over second-placed Ron DeSantis over the following hour or so.

The Florida governor and Trump’s other main rival — former UN ambassador Nikki Haley — appeared to be locked in a tussle for the runner-up spot at around 20 and 19 percent respectively.

It wont make comfortable reading for some.

What is there in this article that will tell us what we already didn't know. This?

"A large majority of participants think Mr Trump was the actual winner of the 2020 presidential election - a number that increases to 90% among Trump supporters."

That Vivek ramaswamy guy just pulled the plug meh…….

OK, if you say so.

I would have thought that this part was very relevant.

Mr Trump's victory was a broad one as well. He won the young and old, men and women. He also won over the evangelical and hard-right conservative voters he had difficulty winning in 2016.

What would I know, I'm not American.

I’ve got a feeling the 50.9% vote for Trump against such an abysmal field of candidates won’t make comfortable reading for any rational thinking adults left amongst Republicans.

49.1% voted the ‘Not Trump’ ticket.

‘Trump cementing front runner status’ over a bunch of misfits.

I would have to say that the Iowa populace have more active brain cells than BIden - Biden cannot find his way of a stage, he'll have to be led like a donkey to vote !

Cannot wait to see the excuse the democrats will make for him not debating Trump prior to the elections.

45 - the man who said that Presidents should have immunity; and that he would indict Joe Biden when he retakes the White House. :cheesy:

Unless of course Joe Biden goes for the option of sending Seal Team 6 to assassinate 45 whose legal team has said that it is ok for a President to do so with immunity.

Is the evolution of Trumps support different from the evolution of Bidens support ?

How did this happen ?

  • Donald Trump scored a landslide victory to kick off the Republican primary
  • He lost the Iowa caucus in 2016 - but significantly reversed that result last night by winning over key voting blocs in the state, including white evangelicals, younger voters and women

What evolutionary change happened between last night and 2016 ?

Chris Christie was a successful governor? He ended up being almost universally loathed by New Jerseyans. As for Trump being a successful businessman, he destroyed his father's highly successful business and went on to bankrupt several other business. The thing that ultimately saved him was The Apprentice where he traded on the widely held but false belief that he was a great negotiator. As his multiple bankruptcies show, he massively overpaid for those businesses that went bankrupt.

As for Biden, he was successful as a Senator, wasn't he. With lots of important legislative accomplishments.
