DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — ABC News on Tuesday canceled the next Republican presidential debate after Nikki Haley said she wouldn't participate unless former President Donald Trump takes part in it, leaving Gov. Ron DeSantis as the only candidate committed to Thursday's event in New Hampshire.

 

“We’ve had five great debates in this campaign,” Haley said in a statement, released as she campaigned in New Hampshire. “Unfortunately, Donald Trump has ducked all of them. He has nowhere left to hide. The next debate I do will either be with Donald Trump or with Joe Biden. I look forward to it.”

 

Her statement was released a day after the all-important Iowa caucuses, in which Trump marked a wide margin of victory over both Haley and DeSantis. With the two locked in a heated competition for second place in Iowa, Haley tried to make her electoral argument more about Trump than DeSantis, repeatedly echoing her refrain that her candidacy marks a turnabout from the “chaos” that follows the GOP front-runner.

Given the spread in the numbers behind Trump, there’s no need for him to debate, there are really no other republican contenders. It’s just another dog and pony show. Let’s wait and see if the Biden is up to a debate when/if the time comes.

There is a big difference in confusing 2 people in a speech, and not knowing your sister from your wife when they both stand next to you, or not remembering where your own son died

By not debating, she loses a rare opportunity to get herself out in the public eye. IMO the debates themselves are pointless , or at least the ones I've seen were, but they get the candidates out to a wider than normal audience.

In Iowa, a very red state, only 2,222 more voters voted for Trump than for other candidates. One wonders who the voters who voted for someone other than Trump would vote for in the general.

Nah, he knows they are going to ask him questions about his state of mind when organizing an insurrection. He knows that whatever he says can and will be used against him by Smith. Biden always made gaffes. In this particular case, his sister and wife were sitting behind him, and he just took them by the hand without watching them.

 

Biden's son died from burn pits exposure during the Irak war. Maybe he should have said he died from the Irak war, rather than in the Irak war?

Remember Biden is the incumbent President, and it is traditional for the incumbent not to participate in primary debate.

Even Trump availed himself of this tradition in 2020, yet you would deny the same opportunity for Biden?

Debates are like sunlight. Kryponite for Trump who does not want to be asked hard questions about the insurrection or where missing documents might be or answer allegations about who he might have showed them to. It'd be like a precursor to several trials coming Trump's way.

Threads like this are useful in thinning out future comments on similar subjects by certain individuals. Of course, you can say whatever you want. I don't have to waste my time reading it. I'm not canceling anyone. I'm taking action to ignore people who I consider very poor sources of reliable information. I'm not here for opinions. 

FYI, I'm not a Biden fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the alternative is truly an embarrassment to my nationality. And yes, I know, that's my opinion. 😉
