Trump, awaiting ruling, says presidents must have 'complete and total' immunity

"A president of the United States must have full immunity, without which it would be impossible for him/her to properly function,"

It doesn't seem to have been a problem for the last 235 years.

Also the fat halfwit won't be able to set the legal dogs on Biden, which one hopes will spoil his plans.

How is it possible to nominate a person like that ???? Hasnt history taught them anything, or are they unable to read or listen ???..

  • What happened to rule of law? He is saying a president can't function without breaking the law? Complete absurdity. Trump wants to be an all-powerful dictator. Super scary that it has come this far.

This is Schrödinger's Presidential Immunity. Trump claims it while stating he’ll prosecute Biden when he gets his dictator powers.    The reality is, Trump is screaming ‘Trump is above

Seems to me trump wants to be just like his besties little Kim and Putin heck Putin I has gotten so sloppy now when he murders his opponents he just kills a plane load of people along with his opponent

I do hope one of the trumpers out there gives their messiah a call and reminds him he is running against Joe Biden, and not Barack Obama. Just last night he devoted his speech to trying to get Obama out of the White House, despite President Obama being out of office since 20 January 2017. Sure, Joe and Obama look so much alike, but really, donny!

Oh, and he also went off again trying to show off his mental bonafides by boasting of "person man woman camera tv". The guy has completely lost it.

As for immunity for Presidents, obviously donny is desperate to stay out of jail. He NEEDS immunity for crimes already committed. At least he's still cognizant enough to know he's a criminal.

I've been thinking about this immunity thing and how best to exploit it. For my money, if trump gets his way (He did end one of his "I need immunity" rants by saying "Gawd bless the Supreme Court") and the SC rules immunity exists, I think Biden should immediately send up a couple of F-18s and blow trump's aging Boeing 757 out of the sky. Immunity!

SPECTACULAR !

Just coronate him now as King and Grifter for Life Trump....

And then when he eventually kicks it, Don Jr. can be named the new King of the U.S., followed by Barron thereafter.  King Trump I, II, III, etc. No need for "fake" elections.

He has claimed that he should be immune from prosecution because his efforts to overturn the 2020 election fell within his official duties as president.

Why even go through the charade of holding an election then, if the sitting president has "total immunity" no matter what he does to secure the outcome he wants? It would be pointless.

Which is why, NO, the president shouldn't have "total immunity".

I was hoping to hear from one of Trump's cult followers.  It would be impressive if one of them could defend Trump's "absolute immunity" claim without sounding like a total ignoramus.

I will defend Trump on this. NO president should be prosecuted for what they have done in office UNLESS it is a criminal act. Trump has 100% right to claim the election result was in doubt, he has the right to get his people to check it  - the prosecution against him has not given any evidence about how that check can be done without being accused of election interference. It is the presidents role to ensure an election is held and completed correctly. Querying an election and talking to people is NOT criminal.

The left is now trying to say it would give Trump the right to get the DOJ or FBI to shoot and kill the opposition. Which is complete lefty nonsense.

If Trump took a gun and shot someone (or ordered a hit) he would rightfully be impeached, arrested and put away for life.

It is amazing to me the total and deliberate ignorance of people that cannot see the difference between the rights of a president in office and criminal acts in office. I may not agree with what a president does, but I cannot ask for him be arrested for it, do something criminal then I would 100% agree with it - democrat OR republican !

WARNING : Should Trump NOT have immunity , then Obama is about to get arrested for murdering Americans  if the republicans get in as he ordered a strike that killed an American

The supreme court will vote 9-0 for Trump - if you wish to come back and argue that they are Trump cult followers than be my guess. Though in modern America they would claim it was a black racist witch hunt

Scores of court cases refuted the claims of election fraud.

The USAG told Trump that DOJ investigations had found no evidence of any significant election fraud.

Trump was not acting in any legitimate role of the President when he denied the election result after being repeatedly informed that he lost the election and that the election was fair and free of fraud.

I look forward to discussing the SCOTUS ruling with you when it arrives.

"A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MUST HAVE FULL IMMUNITY, WITHOUT WHICH IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM/HER TO PROPERLY FUNCTION. There will be little point in any discussion if the court does does not find for Trump. The presidency of the US will be finished along with America. Biden will be removed from the ballot in every republican state. The US will divide into two countries. The normal people and the left, socialist states of America. Nobody decent would ever run for president for either side, knowing one false move would be life in prison.

If the left win the next election, I can safely predict they will change the elections so much that there will never be another republican president - hence the splitting of the US.

Like most of these other daft prosecution they will end in disaster - just look at the mess big fani is in with her corrupt department

There is no defense.

If trump actually believed the election was in doubt (witnesses in front of the grand jury claim he knew he lost, but doesn't like the term "loser"), he may have a right to challenge it. He did that, and lost 59 of 60 cases filed in various courts.

What he has zero right to do is pressure the GA SecState to "just find me 11,780 votes". He has no right to appoint fake electors. He has no right to steal classified documents (That case is a true slam dunk.)

Only idiots think trump's intent calling his goobers to DC on 6 Jan ("It'll be WILD!") and then telling them to "march to the Capitol" and "You have to fight like hell...you'll never get your country back if you're weak" was anything less than trying to subvert the election certification. THAT is illegal and qualifies as Sedition, though SC Smith hasn't added that charge yet. Smith can, and may. Sedition is a capital offense, carrying the death penalty, which trump absolutely deserves.

As for if he 'shot somebody" he would be impeached...not in the 2018-2020 Senate, which had an R majority. Since impeachment begins in the House, there is ZERO chance the current R clownshow in the House would impeach him, so the D Senate now would never have the chance to vote.

Note that trump's legal team argued he would have to be impeached first before facing criminal prosecution, even if he had political opponents assassinated. THAT tells sane people what trump wants.

trump seeks immunity now because he knows he's guilty and hopes he can avoid jail...or worse. Odds are slim to none. The US is guided not by the Magna Carta, but by the Constitution, where NOBODY is above the law.

Is donny losing it?

Lots of folks here criticize Biden for his age, but how's this for a "stable genius"?

Here is a quote from trump's presser in NH on 15 January post his caucus victory in Iowa:

“We did so well, and I think we’re gonna have the same result here,” Trump told his New Hampshire supporters. “I really do. I think we’re gonna [unintelligible]. But we’re also going to place strong protections to stop banks and regulators from trying to de-bank you from your — you know, your political beliefs, what they do. They wanna de-bank you, and we’re going to de-bank.”

trump also claimed he was going to beat Obama in the election. Apparently trump thinks it's 2012, since that was the last time Obama was running.

Perhaps it has been forgotten, or else trumpers are too embarrassed to mention it again, but part of trump's claim, as detailed by his "crack" legal team, included:

---claims that the dead Hugo Chavez of Venezuela re=programmed Italian satellites which then changed votes on Dominion voting machines in the US

---claims that ballots cast in Arizona contained bamboo, the implication being that China stuffed ballot boxes and was too stupid to get non-bamboo paper

Of course the Hugo Chavez claim was never introduced in court, because lawyers who introduce matters they know to be false can be prosecuted. Sidney Powell and others kept that nonsense to pressw conference

The "bamboo" issue was checked by Cyber Ninjas, a firm that somehow (because of so many republicans in AZ) was allowed to examine all of the AZ paper ballots. Cyber Ninjas was a brand new firm with zero experience in anything. Still, they concluded that everything in AZ was up to snuff and trump did, indeed, lose the State.

When all else failed---including Rudy's presser at Four Seasons (Home and Garden) in PA, in a strip mall next to a store selling porn and 'adult toys'---the fake elector scheme was hatched, with trump's participation, for which he is now indicted.

Please explain us how the following are part of Presidential duties:

- asking election officials "just find me 11,780 votes".

- plotting to sneak in fake elector lists

- watching the assault of the Capitol on TV (by his supporters) and not tell them at once to stop assaulting US congressmen and his VP.

You screwed up your talking points. It was Trump's lawyer who made the argument:

Former President Trump’s legal team suggested Tuesday that even a president directing SEAL Team Six to kill a political opponent would be an action barred from prosecution given a former executive’s broad immunity to criminal prosecution.

Let me make a much simpler argument for you.

If the SCOTUS rules in favor of Trump that Presidents are above the law, that right there would remove the S from SCOTUS and end the rule of law in the USA.

The Law would inevitably become a tool of oppression in the hands of an unaccountable tyrant.

Perhaps you missed it, but before trump was President, 44 Presidents before him did not have immunity, yet "somehow" America wasn't finished. Only one President required a pardon (See? Presidents were never immune if they committed a crime, as Nixon did).

The problem with trump is he is a career criminal and simply assumed he was entitled to immunity as if he were a monarch. No, as the Appeals Court ruled today, the US was founded on the Constitution, where all are equal under the law (and nobody is above it), unlike the Magna Carta.

People who think a President is immune are not 'normal' people. Normal people are people who understand the Constitution, and people who paid attention in elementary school civics class. It is clear now who was goofing off when civics was being taught.

As for the election, yes, trump had the right to question the results. Many investigations, recounts, and almost 5 dozen court rulings says he lost. He could not accept being a loser. It is illegal, however, to appoint fake electors, and it will prove illegal to send his goobers to the Capitol to attack law enforcement and try to stop a pro forma certification of an election that 50 States and US Territories had already certified. It will likely prove illegal to try to pressure the GA SecStrate to break the law and "just find me...11,780 votes", and that crime is on tape and the behavior of the GA AG has absolutely no bearing on it. Actual evidence and witnesses were put before a grand jury---including trump's tape and testimony from Raffensperger and other GA State officials, and the grand jury preferred charges, including violation of GA's RICO statute. If convicted, that carries a mandatory 5 year jail sentence, and neither a President nor a governor of the State can pardon such a convicted criminal.

NO immunity...not for insurrection, not for bank and insurance fraud, not for FEC violations involving paying off Stormy Daniels, not for the theft of highly classified documents and then lying about returning them, not for the fake elector plot, and not for trying to corrupt State officials.
