Inexpensive water tank pump

I have an 1 rai property I bought as an investment , that we use as a play farm until we sell it ot do something with it.

 In the property I have a two room structure with a bathroom that I use mainly for storage. 

I have watering straight from the well. which is a pain. but I have been told that it is not a good idea to water straight from the well , aside from being a pain and not good for the submersible pump, the PH of the water is not good, and that I should water from a tank. 

So I got two 1000 litter tanks. First tank will be used as a settling tank which will be a bit higher from the second tank. The first tank will be connected to the second tank 2/3rds or half way up  of the way  to the second tank to get get clean water. 

I described all the above for any opinion and or advice , 

But here is the question. I know very little about automatic pumps. Of course I know , wats ,  pressure, and That Hitachi or Mitsubishi is a good choice. 

But as I said this is not my home,  so I was thinking for something less expensive.

Yea yea, here I go again , getting cheap and in the end I will pay for it twice , I just can't help myself. 

So I look on Lazada and see all these pumps I never heard of (Canto etc) , probably made in China, that advertise 350W and are half the price of the band name pumps . 

Has any of you ever used one of them? is it a good idea? what do I need to know?

Did "someone else" mean a rain water tank? because not much will change just transferring well water to a tank. You are going to need a first pump to get it into a tank anyway?

If it is muddy? it will settle to the bottom of the first tank and if the outlet is not right at the bottom, or a "L" connection inside tank is used, you wont be sucking sludge with what would need to be a second pump?, but if your usage is great and the incoming water stirs it up every time you add water to the tank. But isnt the overall sceme flawed because unless your tank is up on a stand, or up a hill, you will need those 2 pumps. If it doesnt get stirred up, an outlet tap right at the bottom could occasionally facilitate releasing mud if you can shut off outlet to the second pump that feeds the house, then stirr the mud and empty with the release tap. Some pumps specify clean water only and a pressure switch diaphram would prefer clean water?

Well water can be unsuitable for human consumption, and even just the ph level alone has several reasons, had it checked for bacteria? as above why the need for 2 tanks for "cleaning"?,   if someone told you the ph level is so bad for a pump then why trust it to drink?.  My permanent submersible pressure pump is in slightly alkalaine rain water tanks for many years. It is not quite at the bottom. Acidic ph  water can increase the need about a sacrificial anode in a hot water tank, are your tanks plastic or Galvanised iron? Why does your particular well water need settling? if its muddy are you pumping too deep from the bottom of the well? how deep anyway? what is the source? is it "down stream" from next doors septic system?

 

P.S. I'm not an "expert" (former spurt) as in your last posted question, but am a drip under pressure.

Bit of an unnecessary and distorted rant.

Appears to  me the guy wants to pump up to a tank and gravity feed to a second tank and then water by gravity feed. All quite simple, the first tank being used to remove sediment rather than any attempt to make water potable.

What he has not said is how deep the well as that would determine model required, which may not be available in the cheaper brands. I use a double jet for the well.

I have no experience with newer brands but not a great deal of confidence in Mitsu, I had one where the tank had to be replaced after 18 months due to corrosion but my sister in law has one where the tank didn't need replacing for about 14 years and has been running without any other problem for nearly 20 years. I have 3 other Hitachi and one of them had to have tank replaced after 13 years, not a big deal you can do it yourself for around 1700 baht for a ss tank. Other common problem is pressure switches, another DIY for around 300 baht. Not so sure if spares would be so readily available for the newer brands on the market.

[The Theory]

There are unknown auto pump that are cheap, roughly ฿2000 with lower wattage. I assume that what you found @ 350W could be just a pump, not an Auto. Mitsubishi and Hitachi auto pump start at 150W and up. 
I've seen auto pumps at Global House for less than ฿2000, but I'm sure you can find it even cheaper on line.

We have two cheap Chinese pumps.

One is surface mounted and pulls water up from the bore hole and we use that to water the garden with no issues, no settling tank or any other treatment.

This one has been in place since before I married 10 years ago and is switched on and off with a breaker.

The other one supplies water on demand to our house from a tank that is filled by government mains water.

It has been working fine for 6 years, not even had to replace the pressure switch yet.

This one is cheap and adequate for your purpose. I have two, one for the garden watering system, and one for a workshop water supply. Both very reliable, but do have low capacity pressure tanks so click in and out a lot with low flow demand.

Sirineou, sorry but there are are many facts needed before you can expect constructive answers that could save you many baht and lost time and effort.

 

Is there dubious run off surface water entering the well? Why is the water so dirty? any idea as to the underground up-stream water source? if it happend to be in a subteranian basin?  Have you been pumping from too deep? Have you considered accessable water filter/s at the outlet to the tank at ground level, if they are elevated tank/s. Why use sedementation cleaning methods that surely involve occasional flushing? especially if water drops the 1 metre into an empty tank which stirs up the sedements? Are your tank/s elevated as header tanks? if so, how many metres of head pressure? Youll need minimum of about 8psi for showers and thats about 6 metres elevation, above the shower rose, and probably a float switch in the top of the tank if you want automatic filling from the well. 1000 litres is one tonne each if you need to construct a tower/s that high,  Or do you need mains automatic water pressure? wont that mean a seperate pressure pump depending on the well extraction pump?  Or are the tanks at virtually ground level so you dont have that much head available?. A well pump as a simple tranfer pump will need to be monitored when filling any tanks without a float switch in the tank, to stop it overflowing.  Have you had the water tested for drinking considerations?   Curious as to what is the measured ph level? 

After these considerations above, does it seem there  are some  basic priorities precedeeding  pump considerations?

I've tried a cheap, not brand name water pump; I cannot remember the name. It was close to half price of a brand name water pump, but it didn't even last half the lifetime of a brand name pump – it went to the eternal water pump fields shortly after the one year warranty period ended. My reasonably priced brand name water pumps have in average lasted about 7 years.

I hear you. I usually have the same experience when I go cheap. I end up paying for it twice.

It is not dirty, Where  we are in has sandy soil. Very deep sandy soil ,we put gravel in the well, but occasionally. especially when I first start the well pump  I ge a bit of sand , 

Hence the settling tank.Maybe  a mechanical filter will be used but after most of the sediment has been eliminated my the settlement tank. 

Not elevated. I had a 6 meter  platform that i used in the past  but the pleasure was not Great, I still use the same submersible  pump that I was using to sent water to the elevated tank, but now I use the pump to send water to the settlement tank , the settlement tank overflows to the second service tank , (water in the second tank pretty clear)  and from the bottom of second tank , and with the use of automatic pump I will supply the four spigots on each side of the square 1 rai property, and bathroom. 

I ended up getting  a 400 watt Torque automatic pump from Home Hub for 5,000 bht  that has a 3 year warranty and I was told it is made in Thailand (not sure if it's a good thing LOL) 

If it lasts 3 years I will be very happy . By then the wife would have forgotten about all the other money I have spend on my projects and  I can get a better one .

Pump not wife, though I am  tempted.  LOL,

I use the cheap charlie pumps from Lazada.

A bare pump costs about 400 baht.

I use a cheap pump because it is only used to back flush the water softener with water + salt.

That would ruin anything other than a very expensive sea water pump.

I get about two years out of a pump which I think is very acceptable.

Just make sure you get one with a bronze impeller (bronze plated)

We try to ride our bikes three or four times a week, we take the back roads because it is beautiful country  and a lot safer from trafic.

Anything to do with the shower head?  handy hint to remember:- with just 8psi from your former 6 metre head, there's a shower rose designed with very fine holes.  Makes a huge difference. Theres lovely "TopsFlo" 12v or 24v brushless, magnetically coupled pumps, non summersible, a 12 metre head and run very nicely from a couple of 12v solar panels. A compact boat's bilge pump switch with its float, mounted at the tank top can be turned upside down to stop the pump when a tank is full.  Re hose nozzles, regardless of your former 6 metre head versus new pumps, check out Holman's 1/2 inch metallic nozzle. Brilliant peformers. Half on is nice garden spray.

The sandy environment sounds more encouraging than your first post but how about your ph level? There are  cheap pairs of  ph and TDS meters to monitor water. How bad can well water get? Have had lots of practical experience with water etc but little with wells.
