Accident Bus Crashes Into Parked Lorry and Pick-up, in Chachoengsao
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A commuter bus collided with a parked 10-wheel lorry before veering off the road and crashing into a pick-up truck parked beside a roadside noodle shop, sending partially it into a canal. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred in the Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao province. At approximately 08:00 on 2 July, Pol. Sub-Lt. Preecha Khemsiri, an investigative officer from Bang Pakong Police Station, received a report of a collision involving a commuter bus and a 10-wheel truck. The collision took place near the “Je Thum Noodle Shop” along Sirisothon Road inbound towards Chachoengsao, in Moo 8, Tha Sa-An subdistrict. Emergency services and rescue workers were dispatched to the scene, where they found a Bangkok-registered commuter bus with severe front-end damage after ramming into the rear of a Chumphon-registered lorry. Nearby, a Bangkok-registered pick-up truck, believed to belong to the noodle shop owner, was found with its front in a canal adjacent to the crash site. According to Mr. Anek 59, the bus driver, he had just completed his morning rounds transporting staff and was returning home when the crash occurred. He admitted misjudging the distance to the stationary lorry, resulting in a forceful collision that caused the bus to skid sideways and crash into the parked pick-up truck, pushing it into the canal. Mr. Jakkrachai 31, the driver of the lorry, said he had stopped by the roadside to have breakfast before continuing to a company to pick up goods. Shortly afterwards, the bus struck the rear of his truck and the impact pushed the nearby pick-up into the canal. Initial investigations were conducted at the scene by the police, who documented the damage and collected evidence. The bus driver was taken to Bang Pakong Police Station for further questioning and legal proceedings. Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, authorities confirmed that no one was injured. Tourism Pattaya's New Tourist Tide: Indian Visitors Stir Up Debate
Picture courtesy of Wikipedia As July begins, Pattaya's tourism officials shift their focus to local visitors and the successful Half-Half travel scheme, aiming to boost tourism during the slower season. With fewer long-haul travellers predicted, Thai families on school break and an increasing number of regional tourists from the Indian subcontinent are stepping in to fill the gap. However, questions have arisen about whether this influx will generate the desired "holiday rush." Scepticism has surfaced online. A long-time visitor remarked, "Holiday rush? Joke of the year," critiquing the hopeful outlooks. Many believe that the core issue isn't just the number of tourists, but the type and whether they significantly contribute to local businesses. Critics argue that Pattaya needs European, American, and Australian tourists rather than depending on locals using government schemes. Others highlight that tourists from Europe, the US, and Australia have a higher spending power compared to regional visitors. However, statistics tell a different story: tourists from India, China, and Malaysia are buoying Pattaya's tourism sector, providing much-needed support. Although their spending habits differ, their sheer numbers are substantial and noteworthy. The demographic shift has instigated cultural clashes and increasing tensions. Complaints about public behaviour, crowded spaces, and long queues are growing, reflecting dissatisfaction with the new tourism dynamics. Yet, some are embracing these changes, acknowledging the varied purposes different tourist groups serve. There is a belief that adapting pricing models might help businesses remain profitable during slower months. "Don't be greedy; smaller profits now could lead to larger gains later," suggested a local bar owner. In summary, Pattaya's tourist landscape is evolving with a significant influx of regional visitors, bringing both challenges and opportunities. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-07-03
